I'm trying to plan a server build & want two systems, preferably in one box, a firewall & a server with enough oomph for freedombox, a personal git repository, mastodon, & a few other things. Https://freedombox.org/ Https://joinmastodon.org/. Source: about 1 year ago
Is it possible to use this with Freedombox? I use a Raspberry Pi as my i2p router, the Pi Runs Freedombox but it doesn't have a GUI installed, I just connect to it from other devices. How would I use the editor for example? Source: over 1 year ago
Instead of commercial cloud-services, try something like Tailscale or ZeroTier for VPN across your devices, and run a https://freedombox.org/ on that network. The lesser but still decent option is to use client-side encrypted services like Proton Calendar and SpiderOak cloud backups. Source: over 1 year ago
Yeah, if I still lived in Oz I’d be running a [freedom box)(https://freedombox.org/). It galls me that we have to treat the government as an Orwellian malevolent stalker. Source: almost 2 years ago
I would like to see a federated system, such as ActivityPub where everyone hosted their own instances on their FreedomBoxes. Moderation would be something you opt into, where competing services would scrape the web and do their own categorizations, and you can choose what you want to see and what you don't. Even without the moderation system, ActivityPub allows you to choose which servers your instance... Source: about 2 years ago
Nobody is talking about the freedombox? https://freedombox.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
Is now the time to spruik Freedombox? Source: about 2 years ago
> There are 19 stacks in this repository. 19 pieces of software that require their own maintenance, JUST TO RUN YOUR APPLICATIONS! There's tools like Yunohost [0] that can save a lot of work and are focused on making the subsequent maintenance burden easier too. There's an application catalogue [1] with a lot of popular self-hosted apps to choose from and new ones being packaged all the time. I haven't used it... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
There's projects like Yunohost [0] and Freedombox [1] that aim to make all this easier for the average person. Interested to hear about more such software projects. [0] https://yunohost.org [1] https://freedombox.org. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
I wanted to say FreedomBox, but they have Email support planned but not there yet. The idea is interesting though, and it could serve other needs for your small group. https://freedombox.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Consider setting up a Freedombox, you can host the file and share your own private onion URL for others to access it. Source: over 2 years ago
So what you'll want, is self-hosted Tor Onion Services where possible. Look into https://freedombox.org/ that makes a lot of it quite easy. Source: over 2 years ago
I understand that they offer a pre-configured system with updates however I still think they are overpriced. For comparison the FreedomBox is a very similar free software distribution and plug-n-play hardware is sold by Olimex. A Pioneer-FreedomBox-HSK + a 512 GB SSD sets you back 140 € which is closer to the price of the components. Source: over 2 years ago
You’re being downvoted, but you have a point. Everyone in Australia needs one of these. Source: over 2 years ago
Https://freedombox.org/ is a really interesting distro in what it can accomplish. Personally I'm running a Tor relay node to help others, and a CalDav Onion Service that allows me to sync TODOs and calendars across my devices without Google, even when I'm not at home. It can do a bunch of other things like run Matrix or Mumble server (murmur) too. Source: over 2 years ago
I've always wanted to try them: https://freedombox.org. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
I've recently set up a Freedombox server on a Raspberry Pi that I can access from anywhere with its own private onion URL. Finding it really useful so far, especially the ability to use Searx as a private search engine. Source: almost 3 years ago
Depending on what you are looking for specifically, you may want to investigate https://freedombox.org/ It is Free/libre and open source software, so it can be audited, and it does have a VPN and is also a TOR relay by default. Source: almost 3 years ago
This makes me think of Freedombox (https://freedombox.org/). Are they related / can these be merged? - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
Self hosting is blooming thanks to OSs like https://freedombox.org/. Source: almost 3 years ago
It was made for this very purpose, a simple to use home server that anyone can set up and use, as well as being able to use it as a home server for your files, you can also run other apps on it. Everything is done in a user friendly GUI, I have it running on a Raspberry Pi. It's honestly so simple to set up and use that a child could do it. You can either install is inside an existing Linux distro as it's hosted... Source: almost 3 years ago
