Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing ForgeMD.
  1. What's the story behind ForgeMD?

We kept watching the same split on every team we worked with. The people who wrote the docs loved Markdown. Everyone else asked for a Google Doc. The copy drifted within a day and the source of truth got lost. ForgeMD started as a way to let both groups edit the same file without either one changing their habits. It's early, self-funded, and we're still shaping it around feedback from the teams that feel that gap most.

  2. Which are the primary technologies used for building ForgeMD?

A truthful public answer might read: "ForgeMD is a local-first web app. Documents live in an on-device database and sync through a conflict-free merge layer, with a Markdown and rich-text view kept in lockstep. The AI features call external models through a standard interface." If your actual build is, say, a React front end with a CRDT sync engine or an Electron shell, state that exactly. Buyers and tech reviewers read this field.

  3. How would you describe the primary audience of ForgeMD?

Engineering and product teams that already keep docs in Markdown but need other people in the loop. That means technical founders, dev teams writing specs and runbooks, and the PMs or client reviewers who currently get locked out. Anyone who has forwarded a Markdown file as a screenshot to get a non-engineer's edit will recognize the problem.

  4. What makes ForgeMD unique?

Most editors make you pick a side. You either write in raw Markdown and shut out non-technical teammates, or you move to a visual tool and hand your files to a proprietary cloud. ForgeMD keeps the Markdown file on your device and adds live multi-user editing on top of it. Developers and reviewers work in the same document at the same time, one in Markdown and one in a synced rich-text view, with no copy to drift.

  5. Why should a person choose ForgeMD over its competitors?

Obsidian is local-first but built for solo use. Real-time team editing means bolt-ons and workarounds. Notion gives teams live collaboration but stores your content in its own closed format. ForgeMD takes the part people like from each: Obsidian's file ownership and Notion's shared editing. You end up with one open .md file your team can co-edit, export to PDF or HTML, and leave whenever you want.

  6. Who are some of the biggest customers of ForgeMD?

We're pre-customer-base. ForgeMD opened signups recently and is still gathering its first teams through the free trial. Early users so far are small dev and docs teams who found us through launch communities. No enterprise or named accounts yet.
