  If you're a first-generation college student (forgive me if I misinterpreted - but I think first of your immediate family to go to college would count?), you may have some luck finding scholarships outside of UW, from websites like fastweb.com or just by googling "scholarship for first-gen college student".   And don't worry about me falling into debt, I successfully applied for a ton of independent scholarships through fastweb.com, a database that stores as many scholarship programs as possible, and I've already gotten many of them.   In addition to the recommendations of others, also check out fastweb.com. It has scholarships and grants you may qualify for. Also start out at a CC.   Have her set up a free account on fastweb.com as well. That is a scholarship search engine that will then e-mail her any and all scholarships she might qualify for.   For scholarships, there are many out there that are not tied to a specific uni. Use resources like scholarships.com and fastweb.com to find legit, reputable scholarships.   Scholarships.com, fastweb.com, collegeboard, scholarshipowl.com, etc. Are decent scholarship bases but you have to sift through a bunch of them.
