  • Browser not resolving IP addresses ?
I've tried it with various sites (espn.com, cnn.com etc) and all give me various errors (404 etc) but I can connect if I type the domain name in. Any idea why this is happening ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Public Wi-Fi Issues: Really hard for users to connect
I work for a major library system that has very weird issues with our public Wi-Fi network. When users want to sign on to our network, instead of being taken to the sign on screen, they have to go to an authenticating website like aol.com or espn.com. Once they put in the web address for those sites, the sign on screen for our network appears and they can agree to the TOS. Then they're actually connected to our... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • The New York Times to Disband Its Sports Department
No, lol because if you care that much you probably can open espn.com and check on your phone. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Ahsoka footage was delayed due to Twitter issues
Disney is full of SHIT and making excuses. Whoever believes Disney cant post it on Disney.com , espn.com, abc.com are a bunch of brain dead FOOLS. Source: about 3 years ago
  • I donโ€™t see Goff on hereโ€ฆ
You know what, I'll go one more round, maybe you'll have an open mind. Apart from the wealth of PFF data/rankings, the film breakdowns you can google (Chris Simms and Kurt Warner both have pretty good breakdowns on how to read a defense from the QBs perspective), and well, literally every single deep passer ranking you can find on NFL.com, espn.com, r/nfl. • Game Thread: Phillies @ Mets - Thu, Jun 01 @ 01:10 PM EDT
Gamecast on espn.com literally can't keep up with how quickly the offense makes outs. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Disappointed After Trying It
For instance, I have a weather folder in my bookmarks. It has like 20 links in it which takes up the whole sidebar basically. I want to check out some weather models. Then, say I want to view espn.com. I now have to go to a different space and open espn.com? Seems...odd. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Nuggets might be up 3-0 but the Lakers showed a lot of promise
Looking at espn.com this morning the only way you'd know there was even a game is the 4th item on the sidebar which reads "Lakers outshined again in clutch, face 3-0 deficit". Source: about 3 years ago
  • ESPN - UK?
Went to my bookmarked espn.com and it comes up with espn.co.uk. I get a pop up that says I'm on the UK version, and if I want the US version 'click here.'. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Need help understanding add.txt
Ads.txt is a way to determine if the website is legit and who is authorized to sell that inventory. There used to be a spoofing fraud tactic where a site would pretend to be another site. So for example, you might have espn.com on an inclusion list, and it reports that your impression was on espn.com but it was really on fraudsite.com. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Matt Ishiba must be disliked in the rich guy circles
Side note but anyone remember how bad video was on espn.com back in the day? I think they called it ESPN Motion. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Has anyone been experiencing internet/WIFI lagging for the last few days? Some websites or apps take forever to open and now the RCN site is down as well.
I have noticed this - I type in a website - say espn.com - and it hangs. If I hit reload while it is still trying to load, it loads. Source: over 3 years ago
  • GAME THREAD: R1G5 - Nuggets vs. Timberwolves | Nuggets Lead 3-1 | Apr 25, 2023 - 7:00 PM
Both nba.com and espn.com have Jamal at -15 in just a minute of play... He was bad, but he wasn't THAT bad. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Athletic NBA player poll: Pistons/LCA 2nd-worst fans. โ€œNobody shows upโ€
Overpriced gas, food, tickets for an underwhelming experience. Team hasn't been built to win in arguably 20 years. Why would I want to watch that trash in person when I can just check the box score on espn.com and see us getting our ass beat for free? Source: over 3 years ago
  • People need to realize Jack Campbellโ€™s ceiling is an average starting LB that you will be frustrated with on Sundayโ€™s for years to come... WR, DL & OL should be our first 3 picks
There's an excellent article on espn.com dealing with drafting a running back in the first round but also tells how poorly teams do at projecting players drafted. They are the pro's we know nothing in comparison. Source: over 3 years ago
  • If Banchero won't play this season again he saved his 20 ppg on rookie season
You're technically correct, statistical sites like espn.com and basketball-reference.com round to nearest tenth place integer. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Bill seen in the 1985-86 Celtics yearbook cover
I was always of the opinion he got lucky to be plucked by espn.com, the "everyman writer" era began, and then the red sox winning catapulted him into stardom. That was a combo of luck, hard work, and kind of seeing what sports fans wanted. That's also many successful people. Source: over 3 years ago
  • [Groover] Jaxon Smith-Njigba dining with Giants HC Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen the night before @OhioStateFB pro day ๐Ÿค”
Given there's likely 3 WR's ahead of him, and given he could've been the #1 or #2 WR had he not gotten hurt, I'm ok with him falling to us. I do not think Schoen is a 'trade up for a risky player' guy though. If he falls to us, Schoen will take him, but if not, he'll take someone else (maybe not even WR) or trade back. Schoen is looking to maximize talent at minimum cost. Moving up and sacrificing picks to get... Source: over 3 years ago
  • Yikes, this sub is a waste of time
The web hit when I was in college. First browser I was on was in '93(?) - I think Yahoo was the first site I really remember going to. I was a time waste in the beginning - was a while before espn.com would let you check the score of games. Think I spent a lot of time on online newspapers if I remember. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Bro what am i slow? Literally watched the whole game and the second three went in at 16:40.
I think they're going to have a problem here. The Fanduel rules say that all stats are resolved as per the appropriate site's info,in this case ncaa.com. But ncaa.com doesn't have a play-by-play with times. Now, on the Kenneshaw game, espn.com has it at 17:00 on the dot, but cbssports.com had it at 16:58. And it took them forever to grade it (in fact, I think they declared the Vermont one a NO before they did... Source: over 3 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of ESPN

Public Opinion on ESPN

As a long-standing stalwart in the sports broadcasting industry, ESPN continues to command a significant portion of the public's attention, both positively and critically. The network's evolution from a traditional cable service to a multifaceted digital platform has been largely acknowledged and appreciated by the public. However, opinions about ESPN as a brand and service provider are nuanced.

Positive Aspects

ESPN is frequently lauded for its comprehensive coverage of American sports, specifically the NBA, NFL, and MLB. Its ability to adapt to the changing media landscape by incorporating sports that are growing in popularity, such as MMA and soccer, is well received. The network's streaming service, ESPN+, is highlighted as a vital option for users seeking exclusive content beyond what is accessible through traditional TV providers. Its availability on Android and iOS platforms makes it particularly appealing for on-the-go access.

ESPN's reputation as a reliable brand extends to its provision of live scores, news updates, and analytical content. With more than 100 million monthly users in the United States, the platform is undeniably influential in the sports community. The ESPN website is seen as a fashionable alternative to live television, offering diverse sports information, such as live matches, analysis videos, and highlights. Users commend its robust API, which offers developers access to a wealth of data for enhancing their applications.

Challenges and Criticism

Despite its strengths, ESPN is not without its detractors and issues. Access to its content via ESPN+ still requires a subscription, which some users find less appealing compared to fully free streaming alternatives. While many appreciate the breadth of content, there are complaints about the website's performance, with some users noting issues loading the website or experiencing lag during access. This is compounded by certain anecdotes where users have struggled with connectivity issues on public Wi-Fi networks when accessing sites like ESPN.

Furthermore, ESPN's focus on American sports means that it may not align with the needs of international audiences who seek comprehensive coverage of sports less popular in the U.S.

Comparison with Competitors

In comparison to competitors such as FlashScore, FotMob, and LiveScore, ESPN stands out for its historical legacy and vast array of channel offerings. However, for those specifically interested in real-time soccer scores or international sports, platforms like FlashScore and Onefootball might offer more specialized content.

In sum, while ESPN remains a cornerstone in the sports broadcasting industry, it faces the challenge of balancing traditional sports coverage with digital innovation. Its attempts to expand its offerings and maintain performance are critical to ensuring continued user satisfaction and retention in a competitive and rapidly evolving marketplace.
