  • Lastpass: Hackers stole customer vault data in cloud storage breach
I'm obsessive about finding exactly the best app for me, and I was never comfortable with the centralized cloud PWMs. This is exactly why. Iโ€™ve been using Enpass for years because I choose where my data is stored (and because it's customizable in ways no other PWM is โ€” at least not the 20+ that I've tried). In my case, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Box. (iCloud, NextCloud, WebDAV, or completely offline are... Source: over 3 years ago
  • LastPass says hackers stole customersโ€™ password vaults
I was never comfortable with the centralized cloud PWMs. That's one of the reasons I chose Enpass after test-driving a couple dozen PWMs โ€” it's up to me where my data is stored. I have several separate vaults (work, personal, shared with family, etc.) on Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Box. (iCloud, NextCloud, WebDAV, or completely offline are options too). I'm vastly preferring Enpass (https://enpass.io) as password vault but there is no PWA; the closest thing I'm getting is the usual browser plugin and the Android (or Linux) application. Summary of the public mentions of Enpass

Enpass, a noteworthy player in the password management and security sector, has garnered varied perceptions among users and reviewers, particularly as an alternative to some of the more established password management solutions such as LastPass, 1Password, and Dashlane. This analysis synthesizes the public views based on various contemporary sources and discussions.

Robust Features and Customizability

One of Enpass's most lauded attributes is its robust feature set, which includes cross-platform support, auto-fill capabilities, a built-in password generator, TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password) support, and the use of tags for organizing data. Users frequently appreciate its comprehensive offering for password audits, thus enhancing the security of their credentials. The tool's high degree of customizability is another point of favor, appealing to users who desire more control over their data storage and management.

Offline Capability and Data Security

Enpass distinguishes itself by allowing users to store passwords locally, which distinctly reduces vulnerabilities tied to cloud-based storage. This feature resonates strongly with privacy-conscious users who prefer not having their sensitive information housed on external servers. Many forum participants and bloggers point out that Enpass allows seamless data synchronization across multiple devices through various cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and Box, granting users autonomy over their data locations.

Pricing and Affordability

Enpass's pricing model is cited as cost-effective, especially in contrast to some competitors like LastPass. The app follows a one-time purchase model for mobile devices and is free on desktop platforms, which is particularly attractive to users looking for a budget-friendly yet comprehensive password manager.

Cross-Platform Compatibility and Usability

The software supports multiple operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chrome OS, enabling users to maintain password security across a plethora of devices. Its user interface is generally perceived as user-friendly, accommodating both novice and advanced users in navigational and operational processes.

Criticisms and Areas for Improvement

As with any software, Enpass does not escape criticism. Some users report a lack of a Progressive Web App (PWA) and occasional issues with synchronization across platforms or with specific configurations. Despite not being the top pick on every list, it consistently appears in rankings among the best password managers, indicating its effectiveness and relevancy in the security domain.

Conclusion

Enpass is generally esteemed for its customizable, secure, and offline storage of passwords, making it a reliable and economical choice for users disenchanted with cloud-centric password managers. Its practical feature set coupled with a competitive pricing structure underscores its value proposition in the crowded market of password management tools. While there are areas like enhanced compatibility features where Enpass could expand, its core offerings have successfully met the needs of a large customer base, solidifying its footing as a trustworthy password management solution.
