You could test it by unmounting a usb device, sleep the Mac, wake it and attach the dock and see, if it mounts again. If that is the case, then this or this (or anything else in that direction) will solve it by unmounting stuff before sleeping automatically. Source: about 3 years ago

It is similar to Jettison, but Ejectify also allows you to automatically configure when volumes should be unmounted. In my case, it works best when they get unmounted when (external) screens start sleeping instead of my Mac. Source: over 3 years ago
