Decentralization
DTube is built on blockchain technology, which means it is not controlled by a single entity. This reduces censorship and ensures content availability without the risk of being taken down by a central authority.
Monetization
Content creators can earn cryptocurrency directly through user votes and views, providing a transparent and potentially more rewarding monetization model compared to traditional ad-based revenue systems.
Privacy
DTube does not track users or collect extensive personal data, offering greater privacy compared to mainstream platforms like YouTube which rely heavily on user data for targeted advertising.
Community Governance
Decisions about the platform are community-driven, with users having significant influence over content curation and development through voting mechanisms.

Vigilantes roam the platform downvoting members out of existence they don't like for one reason or another using huge bankrolls. There is no blocking function for protection from the these predators. There is potential but it needs to be cleaned up from this kind of trash. The platform is down frequently. Waiting patiently so see if DTube ever develops some integrity or slides down to the lower depths of depravity that it seems to be doing.
DTube can be a good platform for users who value decentralization, privacy, and the ability to earn cryptocurrency through their video content. However, it may not offer the same level of viewership or feature-depth as larger, centralized platforms. As with any platform, it may not suit everyone's needs, depending on their goals and audience.

I'm not entirely convinced that youtube is actually worth $7 a month. Ofc, I'm also far away from saying it is worth nothing, but not gonna pay 7USD unless I'm getting something extra (I mean content, maybe movies???) than just no ads. Otherwise once blocked will switch to other platforms, eg. https://d.tube/, vimeo, etc... - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I plan to use this laptop for location-independent work (i.e., RV life & traveling abroad) that will require simultaneously running multiple virtual machines with local virtual networking to demonstrate techniques. I have a lot of recorded footage to begin video editing to start a YouTube / d.tube / Odysee channel.... Source: over 3 years ago
I'm looking for a single episode ("Atari VCS Is A Scam! Tempest 4000 Was Faked! - Hot Take Game News") of an old gaming news show which unfortunately seems lost. While I have the Youtube link, it's not available there nor on the Wayback Machine. Interestingly enough, it was also uploaded to d.tube, meaning it was also available via IPFS. While no IPFS gateways I've tried are able to serve it, I'm curious if... Source: almost 4 years ago
Https://d.tube is a youtube clone but each video is entirely hosted on IPFS decentrilized instead of google servers (centralized). You can upload every kind of stuff here including porn and noone is able to remove it as long as there are people sharing (parts) of those files. Source: almost 4 years ago
Idk why they don't realize most users barely have patience for 2 ads... If they're going to implement 5... I'd rather just go to another platform d.tube is an option I guess, but dunno how good it is lately. Haven't been there in a while. Source: almost 4 years ago

I keep wondering how long people will continue to put up with it... Looking forward to the rise of decentralized video sites like odysee.com, 3speak.tv, or d.tube. Always great seeing more exposure to stuff like this. Just searched "IWW OT101" on YouTube and was given lackluster results, with a few exceptions I'm checking out now. Might not hurt to get some content on decentralized platforms like 3speak.tv or d.tube as well. Source: over 4 years ago

DTube is recognized as an innovative video hosting alternative that attempts to tackle some of the criticisms frequently leveled at YouTube, primarily through its use of blockchain technology and decentralized storage. Public perception of DTube is shaped by several factors, including its unique features, user challenges, and comparisons with other platforms.
As a decentralized platform built on blockchain technology, DTube provides a significant contrast to traditional centralized video hosting services like YouTube and Vimeo. It leverages the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and Avalon blockchain to offer content creators a platform free from censorship and centralized control. Users highlight the absence of advertisements as a significant advantage, creating a viewing experience uninterrupted by ads, unlike YouTube, which has faced criticism for its evolving ad strategies.
Moreover, DTube incentivizes content creation through a reward system based on cryptocurrency. By using DTC tokens, the platform encourages quality content production and community engagement, allowing creators to monetize their work in innovative ways. This presents an attractive proposition for creators who face challenges on traditional platforms regarding monetization and demonetization.
However, public opinion reflects certain limitations and challenges faced by DTube. As noted by users, the platform struggles with lower user numbers compared to mainstream platforms like YouTube, which impacts the variety and volume of available content. This obstacle contributes to a less vibrant content library, making it challenging for users to find a wide range of videos.
Additionally, while the platform's decentralization is heralded for preserving privacy and offering censorship protection, this characteristic also results in technological challenges, such as navigating transaction fees related to blockchain operations. Users have commented on the technical and conceptual barrier blockchain technology introduces to the average internet user, which might hinder widespread adoption.
Competing with well-established platforms like YouTube and Vimeo, DTube continues to carve out a niche among advocates for blockchain and privacy-centric services. This positioning aligns it more closely with platforms like Odysee and BitChute, which also emphasize decentralization and censorship resistance.
In summary, DTube stands out in the video hosting landscape by leveraging blockchain technology to offer a decentralized and monetized content creation experience. While its appeal to privacy-conscious users and its innovative reward system are notable positives, challenges related to user adoption and content breadth remain significant concerns. As the platform evolves, its ability to overcome these challenges will be crucial in determining its foothold in the digital video domain.
