So far I've tried qutebrowser and the browser extensions Vimium C and Surfingkeys with Firefox and Vivaldi. I've had the most success with Surfingkeys, but that still doesn't work on Drops. Source: about 3 years ago
I've been using the app Drops to just drill on my vocabulary memorization, but I'm getting close to the end of the words that they've loaded into the app (I'm at about 500 words that I know). I've heard it quoted before that you need to know around 2000-3000 words in a language in order to be able to have basic conversations on any topic. Source: about 3 years ago
Is there any easy way to import vocabulary from the app Drops to Anki? Source: over 3 years ago
Duolingo - use app and website, both offer quite a different experience. Memrise can be good depending on the language (I've been doing Norwegian and Danish too). Drops varies, I used it previously. https://www.memrise.com/ and https://languagedrops.com/. Source: over 3 years ago
I recommend you drops https://languagedrops.com and mondly https://app.mondly.com apps. You may also buy mondly premium cause it it very cheap. In my opinion, there is no need to buy drops premium since you can do 5 minutes from pc and 5 minutes from the app totaly 10 minutes a day for free. Last but not at least, do them daily. Drops is a good app to work on basic vocabulary and phrases. Source: over 3 years ago
Drops has carved out a niche in the crowded landscape of language-learning applications by focusing on an engaging, visually-driven approach to vocabulary education. As a fierce competitor amidst well-established names such as Duolingo, Memrise, and Rosetta Stone, Drops is recognized for a few standout features that resonate with users, particularly those who are visually inclined learners.
Visual Appeal and Methodology
A major draw for many users is Drops' visually appealing interface. The app employs beautifully illustrated flashcards, which pair images with words in the target language, creating an immersive experience especially suited for visual learners. This characteristic is repeatedly highlighted across reviews and discussions that compare Drops to other language apps, noting its unique graphical approach that distinguishes it from conventional text-based methods. Moreover, these design elements contribute to a gamified learning experience that many users describe as "fun" and "motivating," much akin to playing an interactive game that diminishes the tedium typically associated with language drills.
Ease of Use and Accessibility
Drops is praised for its accessibility, being available across both Android and iOS platforms, supporting over 45 languages. The app's structure adheres to thematic categories, ranging from elemental vocabulary to thematic topics such as travel and health. This organization allows learners to customize their study focus according to personal interests or immediate needs rather than a rigid preset curriculum.
The app's subscription model is another notable aspect, offering both free and premium access. While the free model allows limited daily learning, premium subscriptions unlock extended features with pricing considered reasonable and competitive. Notably, users often recommend trying out the free version before committing financially, taking advantage of a trial period to ensure the app meets their personal learning preferences.
Critiques and Limitations
Despite its strengths, some critiques are leveled at Drops regarding its depth. Several users mention that the app's content might be too vocabulary-centric without sufficient emphasis on grammar or practical language application beyond basic word memorization. This has led to the suggestion that Drops be used as a supplemental tool rather than a standalone solution for comprehensive language acquisition.
Furthermore, there are concerns about the limitations in the vocabulary pool, with some users reaching the extent of available content after steady use. This issue particularly affects advanced learners who may find themselves seeking additional materials beyond Drops' current offerings.
Recommendations and Community Sentiment
Overall, Drops is viewed positively particularly among visual learners and those seeking to build vocabulary in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. Its gamified and visually enriched methods are frequently lauded, making it a recommended tool for individuals looking to supplement more comprehensive language courses or for those learning languages that are particularly challenging due to lack of resources.
In conclusion, while not exhaustive in its content, Drops provides an engaging and effective platform for beginner to moderate learners focused on vocabulary and visual recall. It serves best as part of a broader language learning strategy, where its strengths in visual appeal and engaging design can be complemented by other resources that address grammar and conversational skills.
