  • How/Where to get DosBox
You also have forks, like dosbox-x that provide cycle accurate emulation, and allows you to run Windows, Glide games, and support midi output in it. It does run slower however. Source: 10 months ago
  • How in the world do I change the keys on the DOSBOX Duke Nukem?? And also the screen size.
You may also want to consider alternatives, such as DOSBox Staging, DOSBox Enhanced Community Edition, or DOSBox-X.. Or if you're looking for a more user friendly experience, you can also try the eDuke32, Raze, or JFDuke3D community ports instead of messing around with DOS settings. Hope this helps! • Is VirtualBox still really bad with Windows 9x?
You use DOSBox-X, which is a fork of DOSBox made for supporting the installation of Windows 9x among other things. Source: 11 months ago
  • Anyone know how to fix the graphics on this win 98 game?
I haven’t used or looked into dosbox in a very long time - is it incompatible with your mac because of Apple Silicon? In that case, maybe look into dosbox-x which has a native binary for Apple Silicon macs. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Rust is Boring
My advice is, when you feel you need that challenge, install DOSBox or DOSBox-X and Open Watcom C/C++, DJGPP, or gcc-ia16 and do some retro-programming. You'll also get the fun of being able to do low-level hardware twiddling and rely on DOS being so simple that it's effectively an RTOS. Source: about 1 year ago
  • I'm 80s baby, 90s kids. what was life like without the Internet?
A lot of the 90s games on Gog are just the original game packaged with DOSBox. If you're comfortable getting a little technical you can grab the files from the Gog download and use them with DOSBox-X instead! Source: about 1 year ago
  • I would pay A LOT of money to get a virtual walk through experience of Enterprise, Voyager, and Cerritos.
You can install Windows 3.1 in a DOS emulator (I favor DOSBox-X), and run the Interactive Tech Manual app in that. Peculiar thing, though: it will only work entirely right if you copy the CD's files to a folder, and mount that folder in DOSBox as a cdrom. If you just mount the ISO, certain Quicktime VR videos won't work. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Is it possible to play old computer games that are only available for Windows on Mac?
On an Intel Mac the options are booting Windows with Bootcamp, running Windows in a VM, using a distribution of WINE (PlayOnMac, Porting Kit, Crossover, Wineskin) and DOSBox-X, depending on how old the games are. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I think THIS actually takes the cake as the most balanced multiplayer level
There's dosbox-x now, may be worth a try? Source: over 1 year ago
  • Im wondering if it is possible to play 16 bit CDRoms on 64 Bit Windows 11. I would really appreciate all tipps.
You want to get the DOSBox-X emulator since regular DOSBox hasn't been updated in years: https://dosbox-x.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Help Mounting ISO in Windows 98 Dosbox X
Looks like OP is using a fork of DOSBox called DOSBox-X https://dosbox-x.com/ which appears to be designed to mount and boot Windows 98 disks. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Alright gang, what we playing?
I just got this working on my computer a few days ago using DOSBox-X. I've yet to tweak the scaling though; I'd prefer integer scaling with no blur... 🤷‍♀️. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Another pointless question about C/C++/asm knowledge.
It's not necessary to learn C, C++, or assembly but, if you do want to, try hobby programming for MS-DOS (eg. Inside DOSBox or DOSBox-X) since it's simpler and will give you a niche where what you produce can still be a case of "best tool for the job". (eg. Open Watcom C/C++ for the compiler, using snippets of assembly for FFI calls to BIOS APIs, etc.). Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Is there a way to play Windows 98 era games on the M1 Macs?
I believe you can use DOSBOS-x to run Windows 98... Https://dosbox-x.com. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • [GOG] Sanitarium (100% Off / Free)
Alternatively you can check out DOSBox ECE, DOSBox-X, DOSBox Staging or DOSBox-Pure (for RetroArch/RetroPie etc). Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Cosmology of Kyoto on Mac
Download DOSBox-X from https://dosbox-x.com/ and try to run it in that. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Please help me run an old computer game on Win10
I'm not recommending this as I have no connection with it, but a quick google search turned up this win98 image for DOSBox-X which is a fork of DOSBox with 3D support that I have used and do recommend. Source: almost 2 years ago
