If your apps are container images, then there are tools like diun, watchtower and whatsupdocker, those can watch the image repository (like Docker Hub) and notify you if a new/updated image has been found. Some can even download and auto-update for you, but that comes at some risk of course. Source: about 3 years ago
Watchtower is inferior to a project like DIUN this way. Because with double you can actually be notified by newer image versions and act accordingly. But automatic updates (which latest is aswell) are bad practice. Source: over 3 years ago

Argus sounds like it will do a lot/most/all of what you're looking for. Super easy to set up with Docker. I had it running for quite a while but just moved everything to either Github release notification emails or diun (docker image update notifier). Definitely sounds like Watchtower is best for you, but to offer an alternative, if you'd prefer to just be notified that an update is available rather than one automatically happening, you could try using diun (Docker Image Update Notifier). Source: over 3 years ago

Don't use watchtower. It only looks for the latest tag on a container, latest could be v2 and then become v3 which has breaking changes. If you insist, use watchtower in notify-only mode or check out Diun instead and never use a latest tag ever again. Source: over 3 years ago

Highly recommend using diun rather than Watchtower. I started out using Watchtower and ran across some of the issues you may have seen popping up here lately with several of my containers. Namely I've had updates break various parts of my infrastructure, including services I provide for my spouse as well as internet in my home. Frantically downgrading sucks. Source: about 4 years ago
