I wouldn't bother, I've used my d5100 hooked up over digiCamControl (negates the two issues you mention - somewhat, it's work around for continuous output is to occasionally fire the shutter which causes a stutter, but this was more of a hack to get it to work in the first place without dicking around with firmware) and the whole end result didn't look all that distinguishable from my logitech c920. The single best thing you can do with a Canon, Nikon, or Sony camera is download the free, open source DigicamControl You can control your camera via USB, and instantly see full screen, high resolution previews on your laptop. I worked around the limit using digicamcontrol on a d5100, I would load the preview window and point OBS to look at that preview window. It cheats by firing the shutter every thirty minutes or so, so there will be a stutter at that point (which worked for me, what I was streaming was largely static - I used it for a board game night so had that, my Sony A7iii on an Elgato Cam Link 4K, two Logitech C920's and IP... It depends on the brand of camera that you have and what model. But it's actually plug and play. You just have to connect your camera via an USB cable to your laptop or desktop. You can than use some software that can talk to the camera. Depending on the brand some some software works better than other.
