  • Author Resources: A Non-Comprehensive Guide to Finding Non-AI Budget Cover Art
Starving Artists: This is one of the options I encourage the most highly. Take the time to search out new, promising artists, ones without extensive careers. Their prices are lower- often immensely so! Finding good ones will be tricky, however- this is one of the ones where you'll need to spend a LOT of time browsing through various art sites looking. I recommend starting your search on deviantart.com and... Source: about 3 years ago

  • Has Anyone Seen These Symbols?
Also, even further back that style of digital art was a thing. You can simply google "tech Photoshop brushes" and get an idea of what's available to create something like this. I also recall someone finding some of the exact shapes in a brush kit at some point. I tried looking but couldn't find it myself. I know there were hundreds of these on deviantart.com as well. • Artists Beware: SadoAlice
I made friends with a user on deviantart.com who goes by SadoAlice. For over a year we chatted about this and that and different things, some of it I will admit was a little questionable but she seemed open-minded about it almost the entire time we spoke with each other. I have, as of recent times commissioned her about $120 to do a comic entry for me that I will admit was sexual in nature but she seemed okay with... Source: over 3 years ago

I saw a semi-cartoon like drawings of Galactic Outlaws on deviantart.com but that site is dead. I did find a Forgotten Ruin world map on artstation.com - Not GE but still Nick and Jason and definitely a cool map! Source: over 3 years ago
  • CMV: We need to get rid of the phrase "sexual orientation".
p.p.p.s. I'd like to offer another way of looking at the topic: deviantart.com is a website where you can find a ton of art from a ton of artists. Really great stuff out there. They have a category for nude art or nude photography, plus sub-categories of course, but what's really interesting about it, is that they have some very specific guidelines for what counts as pornography. You see, Deviant Art doesn't allow... Source: over 3 years ago

  • Into Blood Rites!
I'm also a little concerned about the use of Mika Blackfield's IP in the post, which is at least a little a promotion of a personal YouTube channel. Just a week ago or so Mika's fine work came up in another thread, and someone who seemed to know her a little said that it bothers her when her work is used in other places without her input. So, I have reached out to her via her deviantart.com account and asked her... Source: almost 4 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of DeviantArt

DeviantArt, established in 2000 and a part of Wix since 2017, stands as one of the largest online communities for art enthusiasts, boasting over 86 million registered users worldwide. Initially celebrated for connecting artists across varied disciplines, DeviantArt has also settled its reputation as a platform that not only allows users to showcase their work but also provides a rich space for critique and community interaction. The platform supports an eclectic mix of artwork ranging from traditional art to anime, digital creations, and even AI art, with tens of thousands of new pieces uploaded daily.

Public opinion on DeviantArt is divided. On one hand, it is acknowledged as a foundational social network that has paved the way for many emerging artists to get recognized. It's a significant training ground for amateur artists trying to hone their skills via community feedback. Moreover, it serves as a crucial avenue for discovering new and promising artists, often at competitive prices, an aspect highly valued by authors and creators seeking budget-friendly art, like book covers.

On the contrary, critiques have surfaced around the platform's seeming stagnation and its declining relevance compared to newer, sleeker alternatives. There's a narrative that suggests DeviantArt does not hold the same cultural or technological sway it once did, primarily when juxtaposed with more modern platforms like Behance, ArtStation, and even Pinterest, which offer similar functionalities with arguably more dynamic user experiences. DeviantArt's censorship policies concerning what constitutes art versus pornographic content also garner mixed reviews, appreciated for maintaining decorum but criticized for restricting expression.

Moreover, as the landscape of social networks and digital communities continue evolving, alternatives such as ArtMajeur and ArtWeb have emerged, offering features like selling artwork directly with e-commerce options, catering more to the commercial side of art. This positions DeviantArt in a competitive, somewhat crowded space, urging it to innovate continuously to maintain its vast user base.

From various discussions and mentions across web fora, there's a clear acknowledgement of DeviantArt's historical significance and the nostalgia associated with the brand. However, the current sentiment reflects a platform that needs to redefine its direction amidst a rapidly changing digital ecosystem. The expectation is for DeviantArt to address these concerns head-on leveraging its substantial user base, to remain pertinent for future generations of artists.

In conclusion, while DeviantArt continues to be a haven for artists and art enthusiasts, the crucial task will be adapting to modern needs while retaining the artistic camaraderie and ethos that have been its signature traits since inception. Continuous innovation, along with addressing user feedback proactively, will be critical in retaining its status in the art community.
