I've learned so much while making this project into my personal website (dustinbrett.com). It's made me a much better web developer as I have tried to emulate a desktop environment with pixel perfect accuracy using CSS, HTML & JavaScript. - Source: dev.to / 17 days ago
I'm very happy to announce that my personal website has once again been nominated for a Webby Award! - Source: dev.to / 29 days ago
This has also been ported to the web via Emscripten. I host it on my website if anyone wants to play. https://dustinbrett.com/?app=SpaceCadet. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
You can do this on daedalOS https://dustinbrett.com/ edit: and obviously you can play Doom on it. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
Thanks for the mention for daedalOS! I agree that when done well these projects can help demonstrate the maturity of the web as a platform. For anyone interested in checking out mine, it's on my personal website @ https://dustinbrett.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
As someone who built a website around this idea, I agree! The desktop metaphor is powerful. If anyone wants to check it out it's at https://dustinbrett.com. Source: 6 months ago
If you want some Browserception, my desktop environment (https://dustinbrett.com/) can indeed do this. But after a few levels in Chromium you need to add a random query string (/?a=1) to the URL otherwise it stops working. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
Indeed there hasn't been much movement on that project in a while. My project was inspired by OS.js and a few others like Windows 93. It's been actively maintained since I started it nearly 3 years ago. I hope to work on it for a long time to come. If interested in checking out the repo it's on GitHub as daedalOS. My personal website is the demo: https://dustinbrett.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
I integrated MLC-AI's Stable Diffusion into my website as a custom background generator. It grabs the model data from Hugging Face. https://dustinbrett.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
/u/DustinBrett has a similar project called "daedalOS" which tries to more explicitly copy how Windows 10 looks and feels. Source: 10 months ago
I'm a frontend dev and have been working on my personal website for years now. https://dustinbrett.com. Source: 12 months ago
I've studied python through data science, learned how to create simple websites with react, seen DaedalOS, Used arch and ubuntu as daily drivers. Source: 12 months ago
Ya it's the best I have ever found and they really took time to figure out the glyphs and the different versions throughout the movies. I integrated a 2D & 3D version into my website as animated wallpapers. https://dustinbrett.com/. Source: about 1 year ago
I've integrated WebLLM (https://mlc.ai/web-llm/) into my AI Chat app on my personal website (https://dustinbrett.com/) It runs all inference locally in the browser. Source: about 1 year ago
I've integrated Web LLM's amazing work into my desktop environment in the browser. Once WebGPU comes out next week we will have a stable platform to run AI's fully client side with no server or install, just purely in the browser and local. Source: about 1 year ago
Sadly no, not yet. In general WebGPU is still very early days. Next week Chrome 113 will be the first official browser to support it by default. I tried an origin trial on my domain with Chrome 112, and it did activate WebGPU, but it had features missing that only 113 has. I think mobile will have better support later this year once Chrome finally starts shipping this. Thanks for asking! I have since uploaded... Source: about 1 year ago
When I was a kid in the late 90's making a personal website was my motivation to learn programming. In my 20's it was my blog while I traveled around the world, which I used as a way to communicate with my family and friends. Now in my 30's it's helped me excel my career in web/software development as I have turned it into a side project to build a desktop environment in the browser. Feel free to check it out:... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
How is this any different from this or this? Source: about 1 year ago
Looks cool, if it wasn't for the SharedArrayBuffer usage I would use this one over the current one I used for my desktop environment in the browser. I have Vim on there if anyone is interested in checking out a different version. https://dustinbrett.com/?app=Vim. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
I'm always having fun adding things to my desktop environment in the browser (daedalOS), which also powers my personal website dustinbrett.com where everything I show here can be tried out. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
I am in the minority I think but I am a passionate programmer. My passion at the moment comes out in several forms such as my side project / personal website (https://dustinbrett.com). But I have loved tech and computers since I was a kid and I love consuming anything about them and I wake up thinking about cool things to do with them. I wouldn't want to live without some kind of passion to drive my interests. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
