  • Svelte Native: The Svelte Mobile Development Experience
    > The only major hurdle to this is Apple continuing to treat web apps as second class citizens on iOS If you add a site to iOS' homescreen it automatically becomes a PWA. The best example I found of a site fully leveraging this feature is Cryptee[0]. They talk about the PWA thing here: https://crypt.ee/download [0] https://crypt.ee/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Hard for me to trust UpNote
Well, then - if self hosting is not your thing - something like crypt.ee might be your thing? Clearly a different pricing model, data is fully encrypted, open source, across platforms. Source: over 2 years ago

Https://crypt.ee now. I used to mostly use local markdown editors like Ulysses and Zettlr. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Need suggestions for Free, Open-source, privacy focused diary/Journaling app?
Crypt.ee Ticks 1/2/3/5 of your requirements However free tier only has 100MB storage which might be enough for a journal, it also has the best rich text editor of them all, would highly recommend. Source: about 3 years ago

  • why do a lot of linux users hate Google and its products?
Use ProtonMail/Tutanota instead of Gmail. Use Brave Search (get familiar with their new "Goggles Beta" feature; it's actually very cool and very useful) and Startpage search (gives you Google's search results, but privately). Use Cryptee or Cryptpad for your Google Docs alternative. Get a Google Pixel 6a and flash CalyxOS on it. Use Brave or Firefox/Librewolf. Source: over 3 years ago
  • I'm looking for a Focus Writer alternative that lets you add pictures
Its been a while since I used FocusWriter but there's Cryptee. Source: over 3 years ago
  • alternative to google photos
Agreed that self-hosting is the most private way but if that is not an option for you, try Cryptee (https://crypt.ee) Itโ€™s an encrypted wird processor (think GPhotos or MSWord) and Photos (beautiful minimal UI) and recently added support for videos as well. Source: over 3 years ago
  • best alternatives to Google Drive for writing?
Try to check crypt.ee and cryptpad.fr. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Searching for Secure Note Apps
If you really value a polished web based solution you might consider crypt.ee (It works as a PWA) I've heard ppl say they like it (It's looks like a hybrid cloud storage/document editor), but I don't have personal experience with it. There's a free tier with 100 MB storage, so you can test it if it looks interesting. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Excellent collection of privacy alternatives to.... just about everything
Under third-party. You can CTRL+F in a desktop browser to search "crypt.ee" and it should pop up. Source: over 3 years ago

I'd recommend https://crypt.ee/ You can use on all platforms, you can upload photos and videos. You can leverage ghost folders that will not appear unless you call them up, and the app is password protected. Its great. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Cryptee + Google login issues
I was coming back to Cryptee (https://crypt.ee/) after a while and noticed they added login with Google. This poses a bunch of problems that I found:. Source: over 3 years ago

  • Google photos or iCloud
In practice, you're right, but as far as I know neither Google nor Apple currently provide that specific functionality. Have you looked at other options? Crypt.ee offers the functionality you're looking for, and I think Sync.com does, as well. Source: over 3 years ago

Problem with crypt.ee is, if I make "ghost" folder and hide my files into that, is still possible find out, there are "ghost" folder with files. How? Remaining space! So you still can be forced reveal your "ghost" folder name. Source: over 3 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Cryptee

Cryptee is a secure, privacy-focused platform that offers a comprehensive suite of services which include photo storage, note-taking, cloud storage, document management, and eBook reading. Its user base appreciates the service for its robust privacy features and versatility across various applications. Here's a concise breakdown of the public perception surrounding Cryptee, based on recent reviews and discussions:

Privacy and Security

Cryptee places a strong emphasis on privacy, which resonates well with users concerned about data protection. It employs client-side encryption, which ensures that all user data remains private and inaccessible even to Cryptee itself. This characteristic makes it an appealing alternative to mainstream services like Google Photos and Google Docs, especially for users wary of unauthorized data scanning and breaches. Despite its secure nature, some users have identified limitations, such as the detectability of "ghost" folders, potentially compromising their perceived invisibility.

User Experience and Functionality

Users generally laud Cryptee for its minimalistic and intuitive user interface. Its cross-platform availability and the ability to function as a progressive web app (PWA) add substantial value, allowing seamless access across various devices and operating systems. Cryptee's rich text editor and document suite are particularly notable, receiving high praise for supporting diverse functionalities like creating, organizing documents, and mixing RTL and LTR languages. It is commonly suggested as a formidable alternative to behemoths like Google Docs, especially with its support for 22 different languages and features like Smart Search and the ability to mention documents interactively.

Competitiveness and Comparisons

In the realm of secure storage and document editing, Cryptee competes with several other privacy-oriented platforms such as Turtl and CryptPad. While Turtl shares Cryptee's privacy ethos and supports multiple operating systems, it lacks presence on iOS, which can be a deciding factor for potential users. Cryptee is often recommended when self-hosting is not a viable option, with reviews pointing out its pricing model and polished web-based interface as especially attractive for users who prioritize both privacy and accessibility.

Limitations

Despite its strengths, Cryptee's limitations are acknowledged by its users. The free tier offers only 100MB of storage, which might be sufficient for diaries and light use, but not ideal for extensive data storage. Its suite notably lacks spreadsheet functionalities, which could be a drawback for users seeking complete alternatives to productivity suites like Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.

Public Opinion Summary

Overall, Cryptee is appreciated for standing firm on privacy and offering substantial functionality within its suite of applications. It's seen as a viable option for individuals seeking refuge from the intrusive nature of larger tech corporations. While it has room for growth, particularly in expanding storage and app functionalities, its current offerings make it a compelling choice for privacy-conscious users who value secure, versatile, and easily accessible cloud services.
