Finally had enough of MIUI and decided I want crDroid instead. Did some research for a good tutorial and there's 50 different ways it seems, depending on what I want, most of them probably even outdated. Source: over 2 years ago
I have a POCO F3 with crDroid 8.9 (rooted - Magisk 25.2). I'm using this neet little repo, which you can basically fork and modify and it can generate a Magisk module, which you just have to install on your phone. It also generates another module that prevents the Play Store from updating the YT app (which I do have installed and I turned off auto-updating apps since I like to do it manually). Both of these... Let me give an example. On my phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, I am currently running CRDroid 8 as my custom ROM. This CRDroid system completely replaced the orignal system I had on the phone. It's Android 12 based, which isn't officially avaiable on the OP7Pro (yet). That's what I meant by newer android version. Also, because this is a custom OS, it is seperate from OnePlus. OnePlus plays no part in the development of... Source: about 3 years ago
I can recommend CrDroid from personal experience, just put your device model into this searchbar and see if they support your device. If you want ultimate security you should try Calyx, which is not only for google phones. Source: about 3 years ago

Personally, im using PixelOS, its not the most feature packed, but its has the most features from pixel phones (call screening,... Source: over 3 years ago

crDroid, a popular name in the custom ROM ecosystem, is recognized for its versatility and robust support for a range of Android devices, even extending to older models like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Poco F1. As a competitor alongside LineageOS, Pixel Experience, and others, crDroid has carved a niche for those seeking enhanced customization without compromising on stock Android stability.
Public sentiment towards crDroid is largely positive, underpinned by the platform's active development team that continually updates and enhances its features. Users often laud crDroid for its ability to offer a near-stock Android experience with additional customization capabilities, akin to what AOSP Extended provides. Through forums and articles, crDroid is consistently highlighted for its stability, a critical factor for users transitioning from default smartphone interfaces such as MIUI to custom ROMs.
The ROM's similarity to LineageOS, upon which it is partly based, is acknowledged, but crDroid differentiates itself by including additional features and optimizations that resonate well with stock Android enthusiasts. Users appreciate that GPay functions out of the box on rooted devices, a convenience sometimes absent in other custom ROMs. Furthermore, crDroid's usability on older devices is a compelling reason many lean towards it, ensuring device longevity and up-to-date software experiences beyond the official support period.
Among technical communities, crDroid is frequently mentioned alongside other popular options like GrapheneOS and Evolution X. The endorsements typically emphasize its customization strengths and stable performance, highlighting crDroid as a suitable choice for users prioritizing both functionality and aesthetics. Users report that crDroid's customization features allow for extensive personalization, including tweaks to quick settings, fonts, and UI aesthetics, which enhance the overall user experience.
crDroid's approach to privacy is another notable aspect that garners appreciation. Its built-in privacy enhancements, such as sensor off modes and the absence of pre-installed Google Apps, cater to users concerned about digital privacy, adding another layer to its appeal.
Despite the praise, potential adopters should be aware of the complexities associated with installing custom ROMs, as various user discussions suggest a myriad of installation methods that can seem outdated or inconsistent. However, the active user community often proves helpful in navigating these challenges, with suggestions and tutorials readily available to assist new users.
In summary, crDroid's standing in the custom ROM community is well-earned, characterized by a balance of customization, stability, and privacy-oriented features. Its broad device support and active development contribute to its reputation as a reliable and widely-supported option for Android users seeking more from their devices.
