Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Xecrets Ez and Codegres.org.

What makes your product unique?

Xecrets Ez's answer

Xecrets Ez is the result of over 25 years of development by one lead programmer, always open source, and with no reported vulnerabilities in all that time. It's extremely easy to use and install, and works on Linux, macOS and Windows. It's truly zero-knowledge, offline by design and works without Internet access and never needs a server. It's based on a unique architecture which allows easy desktop use, as well as programmatic integration through an SDK and script compatibility with a fully featured command line.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Xecrets Ez's answer

It's a fully functional file encryption product that is both open source for the critical parts as well as free. With an optional premium subscription, many more features are available, in most cases at a significantly lower cost than the competition.

What's the story behind your product?

Xecrets Ez's answer

In 1999 Svante Seleborg had a need to store data securely on a server. The available option at the time, PGP, had a 25-page "PGP for dummies" documentation. Svante thought that this could be done much more simple, without compromising the security. Thus version 1.x of AxCrypt, now named Xecrets File Classic, was born. Over the years it has evolved, and while AxCrypt still exists as a company and product, Svante no longer has any affiliation with it, and instead is continuing the development of the Xecrets Ez family of products in the Axantum Software AB company.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Xecrets Ez's answer

Xecrets Ez is made for individuals who wants to make sure that their information, images and other data is not available to anyone else - be it hackers, AI training or anyone else. It's suitable for private persons, and organizations to keep personal data personal. While not an enterprise solution with advanced key management features, it's still a very capable complement to most organizations with personnel handling confidential or sensitive data.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Xecrets Ez's answer

The Xecrets line of products is developed using the latest long term support release of .NET, currently .NET 8. For the cross platform desktop graphical user interface, we're using Avalonia UI, also at the latest version. We are very stringent in not accumulating technical debt, and keep both our tools and our dependencies continually up to date.
