SimpleLogin is an open-source email alias solution that allows you to protect your email via "email alias": just use alias instead of email address everywhere. Emails sent to an alias are forwarded to your mailbox. If you want to reply, just hit "reply" and the reply will come from your alias, keeping your personal email hidden. You can also send emails from alias, making alias just a "normal" email address. Because of that, alias can be used as business email: all SimpleLogin team emails are actually aliases :).

SimpleLogin is the best email alias service. Having used it for several months now, for both my personal and pro emails and everything just works.
The team is very reactive and new features are constantly released. They are also transparent about how emails are handled.
Open source and can be self-hosted, I guess we cannot ask more from an email service.

A great resource for hosting multisites is WPMUDev since they support it on all their hosting tiers and comes with a wildcard SSL cert for HTTPS on all your sites. If you haven't set up a multisite before, I highly recommend going with WPMUDev since their support team will literally just do all the work of setting it up for you if needed. I use Forminator by WPMU DEV. Its free plan allows us to add "upload file" block. But, yeah, it's still vulnerable in case someone upload malicious file via it. Forminator can be combined with Akismet & Captcha (to block spam bot), and WPMU DEV also has security plugin named Defender. And lots of good hosting includes ImunivyAV/360 into FTP. Simple Login (SL), Addy (AD), and DuckDuckGo Email Protection (DDG) are the 3 alias email services I use. Both SL and AD can send and receive. DDG only receives. You can disable the sending direction and simply allow the forward service to run. I believe you will be able to handle this technological challenge.
