Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing WordPress.com and Kooboo.

What makes your product unique?

Kooboo's answer:

Kooboo runs the whole stack for a website or web app in one runtime: web server, CMS, database access, server-side rendering, ecommerce, email, and analytics. There is no plugin stack to assemble and no services to wire together. The part that is genuinely different is how the AI works. It is not a site generator that produces a static mockup. Kooboo's Native AI operates inside the platform on the real website: it reads and changes pages, layouts, content, databases, APIs, and scripts, then runs, tests, and repairs what it changed. Everything stays portable. A site is one project you can run locally, move between installations, package, or back up — on your own Windows, macOS, or Linux machine, or on Kooboo Cloud.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Kooboo's answer:

  • You want a CMS, ecommerce, email, analytics, and hosting that already work together, instead of a plugin stack you have to keep maintaining.
  • You want AI to change the real site — pages, content, databases, APIs — rather than hand you a mockup to rebuild.
  • You want to own the result: self-host it, move a site between servers, or back it up as one project.
  • You want to write real code when you need to: plain HTML with data bindings, or server-side JavaScript, without giving up the visual editor.

Being straight about the trade-off: if you need a very large third-party app ecosystem, or open source is a hard requirement, another platform will fit you better.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Kooboo's answer:

Web agencies and freelance developers who build and operate sites for clients. Small and mid-size businesses that want their store or business application on infrastructure they control. Technically capable operators who prefer self-hosting over renting. Teams that would rather consolidate CMS, ecommerce, email, and analytics into one platform instead of paying for five subscriptions.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Kooboo's answer:

On the site level, everything is standard web technology: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Dynamic pages use declarative data queries and bindings written directly in the HTML, and server-side logic uses KScript — JavaScript with a k.* namespace for content, databases, APIs, users, requests, configuration, and email. Data can live in the built-in storage or in SQLite, MySQL, or SQL Server, with table relations and SQL logging available in the admin. The platform ships as a self-contained runtime for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and includes its own web server, database, mail engine, and a bytecode render engine.

What's the story behind your product?

Kooboo's answer:

Kooboo started from a recurring frustration: building one website required assembling a pile of tools — a builder, a CMS, a database, an email service, analytics, hosting — and none of them knew about each other. We rebuilt the same moving parts on every project. So we built one runtime that contains them, along with online coding and debugging, an online database, and one-click deployment. When AI arrived, most tools used it to generate a static page. We took the opposite route: give the AI the same access a developer has to the live site — pages, layouts, content, databases, APIs, scripts, and history — so it can build, run, test, and repair the actual website. Version 3.0 is the result of that rewrite. One thing worth stating plainly: Kooboo is free to download and use without a time limit, but it is not open source. Public releases are compiled packages.
