Cert Decoder
Cert Decoder is a free online tool that helps you decode X.509 SSL/TLS certificates in PEM format. It instantly shows important information like the issuer, expiry date, SAN entries, and fingerprint. All data is processed locally in your browser, so nothing is ever sent or stored elsewhere.
VyOS is recommended for small to medium-sized enterprises, network engineers, and IT professionals who require flexible deployment options and complete control over their network infrastructure. It is particularly suitable for those with Linux knowledge because of its command-line interface and those who are comfortable working within a community-driven open-source environment.

Simple, fast, and reliable. Some similar tools can’t even decode basic certificates. I rigorously tested my tool with many real-world certificates and covered several edge cases where competitors fall short.

It acts quite similarly to routers from the likes of Arista/Cisco/Juniper. https://vyos.io/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
Even easier, just throw together some iptables rules & install dnsmasq. Obviously out of reach of most non-techy people but it's not much worse than most self-hosted things people build. I've even done it with USB-Ethernet dongles. Maybe "whitebox" stuff will have a moment here. Buy a ARM based "computer" that just happens to have a built in switch and 802.11 radio, and separately purchase an SD card with the OS... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
Might be worth adding a paragraph about what VyOS is, maybe not for the target audience but certainly for HN. https://vyos.io/ The VyOS website says: > Democratizing how we access networks through a universal Router and Open source software. > Our vision at VyOS is to dramatically change how we access networks so that we can all build the solutions we always dreamed of, without restrictions, limitations, or... - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago

VyOS https://vyos.io/ is my go-to for open source CLI focused router platform. Configuration syntax is similar to that of Juniper. I believe as an educational institution you would qualify for free LTS images from them. They’re super friendly to reach out to, and seems like they’re still actively developing some really cool features. They do support WiFi interfaces, among many others. Pretty decent online docs too! Why? Because I built certdecoder.com and couldn’t find a decent place to submit it. So I said screw it — I’ll build my own. With blackjack and hookers. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
