  • Multiple Marketplace Accounts

  • Faster clone times
git-fastclone speeds up cloning of repositories with submodules by using reference repositories and caching, avoiding redundant downloads of shared objects across multiple clones.
  • Efficient submodule handling
It automates the recursive cloning and updating of git submodules, reducing the manual overhead typically involved in managing nested repositories.
  • Local object caching
By maintaining a local cache of repository objects, it minimizes network usage and disk space when cloning multiple repositories that share common history or dependencies.
  • Simple drop-in usage
It is designed to be used similarly to the standard git clone command, making it easy for teams to adopt without significant changes to their existing workflows.
  • Useful for CI/CD pipelines
Its speed improvements are particularly beneficial in continuous integration environments where repositories with many submodules are cloned repeatedly, reducing build times.

Possible disadvantages

  • Limited maintenance
The project has seen infrequent updates and community activity in recent years, which may raise concerns about long-term support and compatibility with newer git versions.
  • Narrow use case
It is primarily beneficial for repositories with many submodules; for simple repositories without submodules, the performance gains are minimal or negligible.
  • Additional complexity
Introducing a caching and reference mechanism adds complexity to the clone process, which could lead to unexpected issues if the cache becomes corrupted or outdated.
  • Dependency on Ruby environment
Since git-fastclone is implemented as a Ruby gem, users need a working Ruby environment installed, which can be an extra setup requirement for teams not already using Ruby.
  • Potential caching pitfalls
Improper cache invalidation or stale cached objects can potentially lead to inconsistencies in cloned repositories if not carefully managed.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Voolist and git-fastclone.

What makes your product unique?

Voolist's answer

Voolist combines cross-listing with cloud-based inventory syncing in one platform. Unlike tools that rely heavily on the seller’s computer being online, Voolist runs sales detection and inventory syncing on its own servers for eBay, Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Poshmark. Sellers can therefore keep their inventory synced even when their laptop is turned off. Voolist also includes every feature on every plan, with no feature lock-ins.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Voolist's answer

Voolist is built for sellers who want powerful multichannel selling without complicated software or expensive feature tiers. Sellers can import their existing listings, switch from another listing tool, and manage eBay, Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, Poshmark, Depop, and more from one place. Cloud-based sales detection, inventory syncing, auto-delist, bulk tools, AI listing creation, and an easy setup help sellers spend less time managing listings. Every plan includes all features, starting at $19.99/month.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Voolist's answer

Voolist is built primarily for resellers, small online businesses, and independent sellers who sell across multiple marketplaces. It is especially useful for sellers moving from another cross-listing or inventory management tool, sellers with eBay stores who want to expand to other marketplaces, and small businesses that sell through both marketplaces and their own Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce store.

What's the story behind your product?

Voolist's answer

Voolist was built around a simple problem: selling on multiple marketplaces creates a lot of repetitive work and makes inventory difficult to manage. Sellers have to create the same listing multiple times, monitor sales across different platforms, and quickly remove sold items to avoid overselling. Voolist brings these tasks into one place, combining cross-listing, inventory syncing, sales detection, bulk management, and automation. The goal is to make multichannel selling easier without requiring sellers to learn complicated enterprise software.
