Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Vim Python IDE and TVBuddy.app.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

Anyone who has lost, broken, or can't find their TV remote โ€” which is most households at some point. Primarily smartphone users aged 18โ€“45 who want an instant fix without buying replacement hardware. Heavy streamers who use Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video daily benefit most from the keyboard input feature.

What's the story behind your product?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

TVBuddy started from a simple frustration โ€” losing a TV remote is one of those small but genuinely annoying problems that happens to everyone. Existing apps were either brand-specific, required extra hardware, or had clunky outdated interfaces. We built TVBuddy to be the app we actually wanted to use: instant setup, clean UI, works with any major TV, over WiFi so you never need to point it at the screen.

What makes your product unique?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

TVBuddy works over WiFi โ€” not infrared. That means no line of sight required, works through walls, from any room, even when the TV is inside a cabinet. Open the app and your TV is detected automatically โ€” no account, no hardware, no setup. One app that works across all major TV brands.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

Individual consumers across 65+ countries Heavy streamers using Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video daily Users in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India and Brazil (top markets) Households with multiple TVs using multi-device switching

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

Most remote apps are brand-locked (Samsung's app only works with Samsung, LG's only with LG). TVBuddy is brand-agnostic โ€” one app for Samsung, LG, Roku, Fire TV, Sony, TCL, Vizio, Hisense and more. Setup takes seconds, not minutes. Full keyboard and touchpad included. Works on both iOS and Android from a single app.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

TVBuddy.app's answer:

Flutter (cross-platform iOS & Android), Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), RevenueCat (subscription and in-app purchase management). WiFi-based TV control protocols including Samsung SmartThings API, LG webOS, Roku ECP, Amazon Fire TV ADB, and Google TV Cast.
