Possible disadvantages of Usability.gov

  • Limited Interactivity
Usability.gov primarily provides text-based information and lacks interactive features or practical exercises that could enhance learning and engagement.
  • Design and Usability
Ironically, the site's design and interface may feel somewhat outdated or less intuitive compared to modern websites, which could hinder the user experience when accessing content.
  • Update Frequency
The content on Usability.gov may not be updated as frequently as industry trends change, which could mean some guidelines might not reflect the latest practices in UX design.
  • Niche Audience
While it serves as a great educational resource, its highly specialized content might limit its appeal to a broader audience beyond UX and design professionals.

Possible disadvantages of AllCode

  • Limited Public Brand Recognition
Compared to larger consulting firms like Accenture or Deloitte, AllCode has relatively limited brand recognition, which may make some enterprise decision-makers hesitant to engage them for large-scale projects.
  • Smaller Team Size
As a smaller boutique consultancy, AllCode may have limited bandwidth to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, potentially leading to longer wait times or resource constraints during peak periods.
  • Limited Public Case Studies
There is a relatively limited number of detailed public case studies or client testimonials available, making it harder for prospective clients to thoroughly evaluate their track record and results.
  • AWS-Centric Focus
While their AWS expertise is a strength, their heavy focus on AWS could be a drawback for organizations committed to other cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform who need multi-cloud or alternative cloud expertise.
  • Geographic Limitations
As a US-based company, clients in other regions may face challenges related to time zone differences and localized support, which could impact communication and project turnaround for international engagements.

I'd join some professional organizations like UXPA or SIG CHI and start networking with some folks, learn some more, do some informational interviews. Check out usability.gov. A graduate certificate is not pointless, but I'd try first with your current degree and skillset and talk to some folks first. Source: over 4 years ago
