Instance began with a simple conclusion: an internet business should not have to rent its customers from the platform that hosts its community. Existing products split identity, payments, access, messaging, notifications, moderation, and automation across disconnected services, while the operator remains dependent on someone else's account system and rules. Instance was built from the ownership model outward. The result is a complete branded application where discovery, purchase, access, engagement, retention, and automation operate as one system controlled by the business.
At present, thereโs no better platform for bringing together a global audience with shared interests. However, server admins must invest significant time in moderation to balance community engagement. While itโs important to remove problematic members, itโs equally crucial to allow lively discussions without excessive moderation. Additionally, Discordโs support for communities dedicated to serving their users could be improved to better support these efforts.
Currently there is no better platform to gather a worldwide audience of people that share a common interest. Server admins just need to invest a lot of time to ensure the community receives the right amount of moderation. Bad apples need to go while folks are still allowed to engage in a spirited conversation that isnโt stifled by over-moderation. Discord support itself could be better in assisting communities that exist to serve their user base in good faith.
