Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

TinyScribe 5 features
CommitCat 5 features
  • On-device transcription
Calls are transcribed on your Mac with Apple's speech engine. Audio never leaves your device, and transcription works offline.
  • No bot in your calls
TinyScribe listens through the Mac's audio, so no bot joins the meeting and nobody sees a recording attendee. Works with Zoom, Teams, Meet, Slack, FaceTime and any browser call.
  • Automatic meeting detection
Recording starts and stops on its own when a call begins and ends. A red dot in the menu bar shows while it runs; auto-recording can be switched off per app or entirely.
  • Summaries with Apple Intelligence
Topics, decisions and action items are generated through Apple's Private Cloud Compute. Apple stores nothing and does not train on your meetings; no server of ours is involved.
  • One-time purchase, no account
30 meetings free, then a single Mac App Store purchase unlocks the app for good. No subscription, no sign-up, no email. Transcripts and summaries sync through your own iCloud.
  • Simplified Git Interface
CommitCat aims to provide a user-friendly graphical interface for Git, making version control more accessible to developers who may find the command line intimidating or cumbersome.
  • Free and Open Source
CommitCat is offered as a free tool, lowering the barrier to entry for individuals and small teams who need a Git client without the cost associated with some commercial alternatives.
  • Cross-Platform Support
CommitCat is designed to work across multiple operating systems, allowing developers on different platforms to use the same familiar tool for their version control needs.
  • Beginner-Friendly
The tool is positioned to help newcomers to Git and version control by providing a more visual and intuitive way to manage repositories, commits, and branches without needing deep command-line expertise.
  • Lightweight Application
CommitCat is designed to be a lightweight Git client that doesn't consume excessive system resources, making it suitable for developers who prefer a lean, fast tool over feature-heavy alternatives.

Possible disadvantages

  • Limited Feature Set
Compared to more established Git clients like GitKraken, Sourcetree, or Fork, CommitCat may lack advanced features such as built-in merge conflict resolution tools, advanced branch visualization, or deep integration with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Small Community and Ecosystem
As a lesser-known tool, CommitCat has a smaller user community, which means fewer tutorials, community-driven plugins, and peer support compared to mainstream Git clients.
  • Limited Visibility and Traction
CommitCat appears to have limited online presence and user reviews, making it difficult for potential users to assess its reliability, maturity, and long-term viability before adopting it.
  • Uncertain Development Activity
It is unclear how actively CommitCat is being maintained and developed. A tool with infrequent updates may fall behind in compatibility with newer Git features or operating system updates.
  • Lack of Enterprise Features
CommitCat may not offer enterprise-grade features such as team collaboration tools, access control integrations, or support for large-scale repository management that organizations often require.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing TinyScribe and CommitCat.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

TinyScribe's answer

Most notetakers make you choose: either a bot in the call and your audio on someone's server (Otter, Fireflies, tl;dv), or a bot-free app that still processes everything in the cloud and charges monthly (Granola, Jamie). TinyScribe does neither. Transcription happens on your Mac, summaries go through Apple's Private Cloud Compute, and you pay once. Compared with local tools like MacWhisper, you get automatic meeting detection, summaries and iCloud sync without downloading models or managing files. If you work on Windows, need team features or want a shared workspace, one of the others is the better fit. TinyScribe is built for your own notes, on your own Mac.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

TinyScribe's answer

  • Swift 6 and SwiftUI, native macOS app, Apple Silicon only
  • Apple SpeechAnalyzer for on-device transcription in 24 languages
  • Apple Foundation Models via Private Cloud Compute for summaries
  • SwiftData with CloudKit for iCloud sync of transcripts and summaries
  • StoreKit 2 for the one-time purchase, App Intents for Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts
  • A built-in, read-only MCP server so Claude Desktop and Claude Code can read your meeting notes locally
  • No third-party analytics, no crash SDK, no backend of our own

What makes your product unique?

TinyScribe's answer

TinyScribe is a meeting notetaker for Mac that keeps your conversations on your Mac.

  • Transcription runs on-device with Apple's speech engine. Audio never leaves your Mac, and transcription works offline.
  • Summaries come from Apple Intelligence via Private Cloud Compute. Apple stores nothing and doesn't train on your meetings; there is no server of ours in between.
  • No bot joins your calls. TinyScribe listens through your Mac's audio, so nobody sees a recording attendee, in Zoom, Teams, Meet, Slack, FaceTime or the browser.
  • No account, no subscription. 30 meetings free, then a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store.
  • Under 10 MB, native SwiftUI, and it starts and stops recording by itself when a call begins and ends.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

TinyScribe's answer

Digital creatives and knowledge workers on a Mac who spend their day in client calls, briefings and feedback rounds: freelancers, designers, developers, consultants, founders. People who want to stay in the conversation instead of typing, who care where their recordings end up, and who are done with another subscription. A common pattern: paste the transcript into the AI of your choice and use it as context for the next task.

What's the story behind your product?

TinyScribe's answer

I'm Michael, an app developer for fifteen years. For most of that time my meeting notes were half sentences in whatever editor happened to be open. When AI arrived, I had the same idea as many others: record, transcribe, summarize. But I wanted it a specific way: no subscription, no pasting API keys, no transcription in somebody else's cloud, no downloading models onto the Mac. With macOS 27 that finally became possible: Apple's reworked speech framework handles long meetings, and Apple Intelligence Private Cloud Compute has a context window large enough for a 90-minute call. The notetakers I tried were either too technical or ran everything on a server, and most wanted a monthly fee. So I built the one I had pictured. TinyScribe is the app I open every workday, and we use it daily at Appdafür, the app studio in Munich I co-founded thirteen years ago.
