Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing TightVNC and SimpleWorklog.

What makes your product unique?

SimpleWorklog's answer:

SimpleWorklog focuses on the essentials: time tracking, project management, and billing โ€” without the complexity of large ERP or HR systems. Its standout feature is the client dashboard. Users can give clients secure access to view invoices, track project activity, and see billable work before an invoice is issued. This creates unprecedented transparency, reduces billing questions, and helps build trust.

SimpleWorklog keeps service businesses organized while keeping clients informed.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SimpleWorklog's answer:

Choose SimpleWorklog if you want a simple, focused tool for time tracking and invoicing without the complexity of large all-in-one systems. Its key advantage is the client dashboard: clients can securely view invoices, tracked work, and even upcoming billable efforts before they are invoiced. This creates uncommon transparency, reduces billing disputes, and builds trust.

In short: less complexity for you, more clarity for your clients.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SimpleWorklog's answer:

The primary audience of SimpleWorklog is freelancers, consultants, and small service-based teams who bill their work by time or project. More specifically, it fits people who:

  • work directly with clients (not internal corporate workflows)

  • need simple time tracking linked to invoicing

  • want to avoid complex ERP or HR systems

  • value clear communication and transparency with clients

Typical users are developers, designers, agencies, and consultants who want a lightweight system that helps them track work and get paidโ€”while keeping clients continuously informed through the dashboard feature.

What's the story behind your product?

SimpleWorklog's answer:

The story behind SimpleWorklog comes directly from my own experience working as a freelance web designer and layout artist for several years. During that time, I worked closely with long-term clients who trusted me enough to assign projects without asking for a detailed cost estimate upfront. In most cases, they only saw the actual price once the invoice arrived. Because of the strong, long-standing relationships, this approach worked well and there were rarely any issues.

However, over time I felt that something important was missing: transparency during the process itself. I wanted my clients not just to trust the final invoice, but to actually see what was happening along the wayโ€”what work was being done, and what would likely be billed next, before the invoice was ever created.

At the same time, I found most existing bookkeeping and time-tracking tools to be overly complex. They were packed with features designed for much larger organizations, while my own freelance work only required a small, focused set of functions.

SimpleWorklog was born out of these two frustrations:

  • the lack of real-time billing transparency for clients
  • and the overload of unnecessary complexity in existing software

The result is a tool that keeps things deliberately simple, while introducing a key idea I always wanted in my own freelance work: Clients should not only receive invoicesโ€”they should understand them before they arrive.
