Tessio is an age and identity verification API built on the EU Digital Identity Wallet.

Most age assurance today means uploading an ID document or taking a selfie. That solves the regulator's problem by creating a data protection one, because you then hold identity data you have to secure, justify and disclose if it leaks.

Tessio asks a narrower question. One API call starts an over 18 check, the user approves it in their wallet, and a signed result lands on your webhook. The credential we request is the EU age verification attestation, which contains thirteen age booleans and nothing else. There is nothing to store, because there is nothing to receive.

Built for platforms that need to meet the UK Online Safety Act and the EU Digital Services Act without becoming a custodian of identity data. The verifier underneath is open source .NET, Apache-2.0, on NuGet, so you can self host it or read exactly what it does. It passes the OpenID Foundation conformance suite for OpenID4VP 1.0 HAIP verifiers, in both credential formats the EU wallet uses.

Member states must make the wallet available by December 2026 under Regulation (EU) 2024/1183, and regulated relying parties must accept it by December 2027.

Stage, plainly: the API is live and you can integrate against the sandbox today. Access is invite only. Production wallets require a relying party access certificate, which we have applied for and do not yet hold, as is true of every relying party in Europe right now.

What makes your product unique?

Tessio verifies age from the EU Digital Identity Wallet instead of collecting documents or selfies. The credential it requests carries age booleans and nothing else: no name, no date of birth, no document number, no photo. That means there is no identity data to store, leak or audit, and it is a property of the protocol rather than a promise, so you can verify it yourself. The verifier underneath is open source and passes the OpenID Foundation conformance suite for OpenID4VP 1.0 HAIP verifiers in both EU credential formats.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Most age verification vendors solve the regulator's problem by creating a data protection one: you end up holding ID documents or biometric data. Tessio asks a narrower question and receives a narrower answer, a signed yes or no. For platforms under the UK Online Safety Act, the EU Digital Services Act or gambling licences, that removes the breach surface and most of the GDPR overhead instead of managing it. And because the verification core is open source, a technical reviewer can check the claims before ever talking to us.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Compliance and product teams at age regulated platforms in the EU and UK: iGaming operators, nicotine and alcohol e-commerce, dating and social apps, and the platform providers that serve them. The integration is a REST API with webhooks, built to be wired in by one developer in an afternoon.

What's the story behind your product?

Tessio's answer

Tessio is built by a small studio in Stockholm (Triple Down AB). The starting point was a regulatory collision: age checks are becoming mandatory across Europe while the usual methods, document upload and face scanning, create exactly the data protection risk the same regulators punish. The EU Digital Identity Wallet made a third way possible for the first time: a credential that proves an age threshold and contains nothing else. We built the verifier, open sourced it, ran it through the OpenID Foundation conformance suite, and put a hosted API on top. It is early and access is invite only, and the site says so plainly.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

.NET and ASP.NET Core, PostgreSQL and Valkey, a Next.js dashboard, all running on EU infrastructure. The protocol layer is OpenID4VP 1.0 with SD-JWT VC and ISO 18013-5 mdoc credentials. The verifier library, Tessio.Verifier, is Apache-2.0 on NuGet.
