There is a learning curve, there is quite a lot of it, but it is still way easier than some other platforms. I've used and abused AWS and EC2 specifically and for me it is the best.

Search into GLSL shaders in your favorite search engine. For the MPD218, I have this midi mapped in some software called Synesthesia (https://synesthesia.live). This is really cool software because it allows for pretty easy VJing while you are on the decks.
