This will let you download all of your photos that already exist on iCloud Photos. Going forward, youโd want to set up some other way to sync photos you take from your phone to your other devices. The other - perhaps more important - reason to provide a laptop is data risk management. If the laptop is yours, you can force encryption, backups, and install endpoint security tools, which allow you to remotely wipe it if lost/stolen/fired.
