Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing SubnetLens and Diffyn.

What makes your product unique?

SubnetLens's answer

A few things no other consumer-priced scanner combines: - It names and identifies every device — recognizes 1,451 device types by hostname, so you see "Canon G5000 printer" or "Synology NAS," not just an IP. - Per-device port history — records the exact moment a new service opens on a device, so you catch a server that suddenly started running RDP. Enterprise tools charge thousands a year for this. - Live Mode — continuous mDNS/SSDP listening catches devices the moment they appear, between scans. - 100% local — no cloud, no telemetry, no account. Your scan data never leaves your machine. - One one-time price, with an encrypted credential vault, 26 IT tools, scheduling, SNMP, IPAM and a Prometheus endpoint all bundled in.

Diffyn's answer:

Addresses workflow and change management on LLM prompts, provide teams with traceability and visualization of tests across multiple models, provide deeper understading into efficiency of these prompts.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SubnetLens's answer

  • vs Advanced IP Scanner / Angry IP Scanner — free but basic and barely updated. SubnetLens adds live monitoring, port history, risk scoring, a credential vault and a modern UI.
  • vs Fing Desktop — no subscription. SubnetLens is one-time $79 and tracks ports per device, not just devices.
  • vs Auvik / Domotz / Lansweeper — no cloud dependency and no $500–1,000/year/site bill. Your data stays local and you pay once. More capable than the free tools, far cheaper than the enterprise ones, and everything stays on your machine.

Diffyn's answer:

Diffyn is the platform that specializes on both change management and multi-model analysis.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

SubnetLens's answer

  • Electron + React — the desktop app
  • Node.js — the scanning engine and 26 diagnostic tools
  • Vite + Tailwind CSS — the UI
  • vis-network — the interactive topology map
  • A privacy-first Cloudflare Workers backend for licensing (no user data stored)

Diffyn's answer:

React, Next.js, POSTGRESQL

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SubnetLens's answer

  • SMB and solo IT admins managing a network without a big budget
  • Sysadmins, MSPs and IT contractors doing discovery and audits
  • Home-lab and self-hosting enthusiasts who want to see and monitor every device Anyone who finds Advanced IP Scanner too basic but won't pay $1,000/year for an enterprise SaaS tool.

Diffyn's answer:

Professionals incorporating LLMs or AI tools in their workflow and wants to keep track of changes and test their prompts.

What's the story behind your product?

SubnetLens's answer

SubnetLens started from a simple frustration: the free network scanners are basic and barely maintained, while the capable tools are either cloud subscriptions or cost thousands a year per site. There wasn't a modern, local-first option that just told you what's on your network and watched it for changes — without sending your data to someone else's cloud. So we built one: a fast, visual Windows scanner that names every device, tracks how your network changes over time, and keeps 100% of the data on your machine. One-time price, no telemetry.

Diffyn's answer:

I started working on Diffyn when I notice that prompting has become an essential part of work across many industries. While there are version control platofrms like github, they are not designed for just prompt management are can be overkill such applications, it is also not integrated natively with various LLMs and relevant tools for users to validate ideas and visualise results properly.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

SubnetLens's answer

System admins, Network or IT Professionas
