Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Sublime Text and DocBabel.

What makes your product unique?

DocBabel's answer:

Most translation tools have character limits (5k-10k chars) that make them useless for full documents. DocBabel handles entire books in one go:
- Upload a 500-page PDF and get it fully translated
- AI maintains context across hundreds of pages
- Preserves formatting, terminology, and the author's writing style
- No copy-pasting chunks into ChatGPT for hours

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

DocBabel's answer:

  • No character limits - Competitors like DeepL and Google Translate cap at a few thousand characters. DocBabel handles entire books.
  • Context awareness - The AI understands the full document, keeping terminology consistent throughout.
  • Style preservation - Maintains the author's voice, not just word-for-word translation.
  • Format retention - Your PDF comes back looking like the original, just in a different language.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

DocBabel's answer:

  • Authors and publishers translating books for international markets
  • Researchers reading academic papers in foreign languages
  • Companies translating technical documentation
  • Anyone who needs to translate documents longer than a few pages

What's the story behind your product?

DocBabel's answer:

I wanted to translate a 400-page PDF book. My options? Copy-paste chunks into ChatGPT for hours, or pay thousands for a human translator. Every
translation tool I found had the same problem: character limits. 5,000 characters here, 10,000 there. For a full book? Useless. So I built what I
needed: upload a book, get it translated. The whole thing.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

DocBabel's answer:

  • React and Vite for the frontend
  • Node.js and Express for the backend
  • Multiple AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) for translation quality
  • Supabase for database and file storage

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

DocBabel's answer:

  • Independent authors translating their books
  • Small publishers expanding to new markets
  • Academic researchers
  • Technical writers
