Possible disadvantages of Streetmix

  • Limited to Conceptual Designs
Streetmix is primarily for conceptual street design and lacks the advanced capability required for detailed engineering or construction-ready plans.
  • Dependence on Internet Connection
As a web-based application, Streetmix requires an internet connection to function, which can be a limitation in areas with unreliable or no internet access.
  • No Export to Professional CAD Formats
The inability to export designs to professional engineering software formats can hinder integration with other professional workflows and tools.
  • Limited Customization
While offering diverse design elements, Streetmix may not accommodate all specific customization needs required for unique street design projects.
  • Not Suitable for Large Scale Projects
Streetmix is more suited for smaller scale, localized street designs rather than complex, extensive urban planning projects.

Compared to more established frameworks, Nullstack has a smaller community, which can result in fewer resources and third-party tools.
  • Learning Curve
Developers need to learn the Nullstack-specific ways of handling both front-end and back-end development, which might be a hurdle for those accustomed to other frameworks.
  • Limited Ecosystem
Due to its newer and less widely adopted nature, there might be limited third-party libraries and plugins readily available compared to more mature frameworks.
  • Rapidly Evolving
Being relatively new and possibly evolving quickly, developers might face breaking changes more frequently compared to more established technologies.

  • Using AI to create renders of streetscapes? Showing possible transformation of existing places?
It's not AI backed, but I've found Streetmix to be very useful for that kind of task. There are options for car, bike, and transit lanes. It only gives you a cross section of the street, so you can't model intersections, but it's a great tool for showing how streets could be rearranged. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Is there an authoritative "Dutch Road Design Guide" published by Dutch government or a respected NGO?
Oof that sucks. I just learned about this thing called Street Mix (from Shifterโ€™s YouTube channel), and itโ€™s pretty cool. Itโ€™s just a cross section view of a street, but it was fun to play with. https://streetmix.net/ Doesnโ€™t work on phone browsers, btw. Source: over 3 years ago
  • A Protected Bike lane design I made for Clark/Lincoln/Wells. (Current design in second image)
Nice! If you want to figure out actual lane widths/etc, I'd recommend creating some Streetmix cross cuts. It would help give a visualization of the curb to curb space allocation at ground level. Source: over 3 years ago
