Possible disadvantages of Squoosh

  • Limited Advanced Features
While great for basic compression tasks, Squoosh might lack some advanced features found in professional image editing software.
  • File Size Limits
There might be limitations on the size of the files that can be uploaded and processed, which could be a constraint for users dealing with very large images.
  • Web-Based Dependency
As a web application, its performance can be influenced by the browser and device capability, which could vary significantly among users.
  • No Batch Processing
Squoosh is designed for single-image processing. Users looking to compress multiple images at once will find this feature lacking.
  • Privacy Concerns
Although it can be used offline, the nature of a web app raises concerns for users who prioritize privacy and data security.
  • Limited Support Resources

Possible disadvantages of Audacity

  • User Interface
The interface can seem outdated and cluttered compared to other modern DAWs, which might make it less appealing or harder to navigate for some users.
  • Learning Curve
While powerful, Audacity can be somewhat overwhelming for beginners due to its extensive range of features and lack of guided tutorials within the software.
  • Non-Destructive Editing
Audacity lacks non-destructive editing, meaning changes are applied directly to the audio files, potentially leading to loss of original audio if not carefully managed.
  • Limited MIDI Support
Audacity's MIDI capabilities are limited, which could be a drawback for musicians looking to integrate MIDI instruments and controllers into their projects.
  • Real-Time Effects
The software does not support real-time effect processing, requiring users to apply effects offline, which can be less efficient for users needing immediate auditory feedback.

  • Can you build a recognizable World Map in under 500 bytes?
Its a fun challenge. I used https://squoosh.app to make a pretty good one. Mostly just a resize and then OxiPNG for compression. Managed a 124x62 black/white image. OP has a resolution of 195x53, so I had very similar, but slightly worse I think? Mostly a different aspect ratio + map projection I think. Playing with Squoosh.app is very fun, and you can very easily see how the jump from 500b to ~1.5kb turns a map... - Source: Hacker News / 7 days ago

  • Free Browser Tools for Developers Who Make Content
Every image goes through Squoosh before it lands in any repo I own. Drag the file in, pick WebP or AVIF, drag the quality slider until the preview still looks clean, download. The size reduction is usually 60โ€“80% with no visible quality loss. It runs entirely locally in your browser โ€” nothing is uploaded anywhere. For a performance-conscious developer this matters. Best for: Pre-commit image optimisation, blog... - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
  • Rust WASM vs TypeScript Performance: Why the 'Faster' Language Lost by 25% [2026]
The Squoosh image compression app from Google is a great example. It runs codecs like MozJPEG and WebP entirely in WASM, processing large image buffers with minimal boundary crossings. Near-native compression performance, right in the browser. - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago
  • Flutter App Taking Too Long to Start? Here's What You're Doing Wrong
For images, tools like TinyPNG or Squoosh can reduce file sizes dramatically, often by 60-80%, with little to no visible quality difference. For your splash screen specifically, consider using a simple vector image (SVG) or even a plain color with your logo instead of a heavy raster image. Flutter's native splash screen supports this out of the box and it's blazing fast. - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago

  • Keeps freezing at 4.09% when rendering for Youtube
If you have audio clips in a compressed format, such as MP3, we recommend converting them to a lossless format like WAV or FLAC using free audio editor software like Audacity. OpenShot prefers working with uncompressed audio during project editing. Similarly, if your video clips are in a format other than MP4, use free video converter software, such as Handbrake, to convert them to MP4 format, as OpenShot prefers... Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Voice Over
OpenShot does not have a record feature. You can use free audio editor software such as Audacity to record your voice-over audio and export the clip as an uncompressed audio file (I recommend FLAC). Import the audio clip into OpenShot and align the clips on the Timeline. Source: about 3 years ago
  • I downloaded audacity from github as that was what was linked on the ds modding wiki and I needed it for theme background music
That's valid, but unless you have a reason to specifically want that old version you might wish to get the current version from its official source at https://audacityteam.org . Source: about 3 years ago
  • Question from a frustrated user.
The only other thing I can think of to try is a completely clean install; not just uninstalling Audacity, but trashing any config, cache, and other files it may leave on your computer after uninstall. Only after you've zapped away any trace of Audacity from your system should you download it again from https://audacityteam.org and reinstall. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Progressing through the late beginner stage?
What changed my playing ( and my life ) was a digital multi-track recorder. I use a BOSS Micro BR, but a laptop equipped with Audacity ( https://audacityteam.org ) would work as well. I started working on multi-part pieces recording one line and then the next over it. I got better quickly, and it was fun. Source: over 3 years ago
