The former well-known service gpsies.com (now replaced with alltrails.com, which has a really poor functionality) had an extremely useful track export functionality, which enabled notifications automatically added to the track structure with indication in advance of need to turn at forks in the road. If you put the track into gpsies.com or some service like that, you should be able to "convert" it into a pure gpx track without the waypoints. Then re-import and add waypoints where you need them. Source: about 5 years ago
