As answered by people managing SolarWinds Patch Manager and Padwolf.
Padwolf's answer:
Two things. First, it starts on a beat. Every kit arrives with its own signature groove at its own tempo and swing, so pressing play on a fresh page gives you something to work with instead of an empty grid and silence. Switch kits and the groove follows — until you edit a step, from which point the pattern is yours and only the sounds change.
Second, it behaves like an instrument rather than a web page. Timing is sample-accurate, the pads respond immediately, and exports come out exactly as you heard them. There is no upload step anywhere in the app, so your samples and projects stay on your machine.
Padwolf's answer:
Nothing to install — open the page and the pads respond. You get 8 banks of 16 pads, a step sequencer with MPC-style swing, per-pad pitch, fine tune, volume and FX, your own samples with a built-in editor, MIDI controller support, and export to WAV, FLAC or OGG — as a finished beat, as the individual samples of a bank, or as a project you can reopen later. All free.
Padwolf's answer:
People who want to make a beat without setting up a DAW: beginners learning drum programming, producers sketching an idea quickly, and anyone on a machine where installing software isn't an option — a school or work computer, a borrowed laptop, a Chromebook. The 57 English and 32 German guides on patterns, swing and mixing are aimed at the first group in particular.
Padwolf's answer:
Padwolf runs entirely in the browser as a standards-based web app. Beats are played, sequenced and exported on your own device, and MIDI controllers are supported through the browser directly.
Padwolf's answer:
Padwolf comes from a straightforward question: how much of a native sampler can you actually get in a browser tab?
For a long time the honest answer was "not much", and that was fair. Padwolf is an attempt to move that line a little — proper pads and banks, a sequencer with swing, real sample editing, and exports you can take into a mix. Whether it gets all the way to a desktop instrument is for the person using it to decide. What the browser gives back is that there is nothing to install: you open the page and it's there.
