Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

SOAPEngine 4 features
Bootstrapware Importer 12 features
  • Comprehensive SOAP Support
SOAPEngine provides robust and thorough support for SOAP-based web services, making it easier for developers to integrate complex SOAP operations in their applications.
  • iOS and macOS Compatibility
It is designed to work seamlessly with iOS and macOS platforms, ensuring that developers can build applications across Apple’s ecosystem using SOAP services.
  • Easy Integration
SOAPEngine is relatively straightforward to integrate into existing projects, providing a variety of functionalities needed to quickly start consuming SOAP web services.
  • Automatic XML Parsing
The library handles the parsing of XML responses automatically, which simplifies the developer's job by abstracting away the complexity of handling XML data.

Possible disadvantages

  • Limited to Apple Platforms
SOAPEngine is specifically designed for iOS and macOS, making it unsuitable for developers targeting cross-platform solutions that include Android or other systems.
  • Outdated Documentation
Some users might find the documentation for SOAPEngine outdated or lacking clarity, potentially complicating the learning curve for new users.
  • Dependency on SOAP Protocol
As SOAP is an older protocol compared to REST, developers using SOAPEngine are tied to using SOAP services, which might not be the best fit for newer web service designs.
  • Performance Overheads
SOAP can introduce performance overheads due to its verbose nature and the XML format, potentially affecting the performance of applications using SOAPEngine.
  • Browser-side processing
Parsing, mapping, validation, and normalization run on the customer’s device. Spreadsheet contents are not uploaded to Bootstrapware.
  • Column mapping
Automatically maps headers using aliases. Users can manually remap columns, and preview remains blocked until all required fields are mapped.
  • Typed validation
Supports string, number, date, email, enum, boolean, URL, required, and field-level unique validation.
  • File format support
Supports CSV, XLSX, TSV, semicolon-delimited, and pipe-delimited files with automatic delimiter detection.
  • Multi-sheet Excel
Excel workbooks include a sheet picker so users can select the correct worksheet before mapping.
  • Preview
Displays counts for the complete file and previews the first 100 rows so users can identify problems before submission.
  • Duplicate detection
Detects case-insensitive duplicates using a configured duplicate key or fields marked as unique.
  • Failed-row export
Exports import-errors.csv with the original field columns and an Errors column for correction and re-upload.
  • Localization
Supports US and EU number formats, MDY or DMY dates, and left-to-right or right-to-left interfaces.
  • Configuration revisions
Teams can edit a draft without affecting live clients, then publish the new configuration when ready.
  • Operational webhooks
Sends HMAC-signed import.completed webhooks containing operational metadata, never spreadsheet contents.
  • Downloadable templates
Generates a template CSV in the browser using the configured schema and field examples.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing SOAPEngine and Bootstrapware Importer.

What makes your product unique?

Bootstrapware Importer's answer:

Bootstrapware Importer provides a complete spreadsheet import experience while keeping customer data out of the vendor’s infrastructure. CSV, Excel, TSV, and other supported files are parsed, mapped, validated, and previewed directly in the browser. File contents, filenames, parsed rows, and normalized data never reach Bootstrapware. The host application receives validated objects through an onComplete callback and remains responsible for authorization and storage.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Bootstrapware Importer's answer:

Bootstrapware Importer is designed for small production SaaS teams that need a reliable import workflow without enterprise data-onboarding complexity or pricing. It includes column mapping, typed validation, spreadsheet previews, duplicate detection, multi-sheet Excel support, downloadable templates, and failed-row export for $19.99 per month. Development and evaluation remain free, and spreadsheet data is processed entirely in the customer’s browser.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Bootstrapware Importer's answer:

Bootstrapware Importer is built for bootstrapped founders, independent developers, AI-assisted builders, and small SaaS teams whose customers need to import users, contacts, products, inventory, or other structured records from spreadsheets. It is best suited to React applications that need a polished production import flow without building and maintaining the entire interface internally.

What's the story behind your product?

Bootstrapware Importer's answer:

Bootstrapware Importer was created around a simple observation: generating a basic CSV parser is easy, but operating a dependable customer-facing import workflow is not. Column mapping, messy spreadsheet formats, localized numbers and dates, validation, duplicate handling, previews, and useful error recovery create an ongoing maintenance burden. Bootstrapware packages those production details into a focused React component priced for small SaaS businesses.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Bootstrapware Importer's answer:

Bootstrapware Importer is built for the modern React and TypeScript ecosystem and distributed as a typed npm package. Spreadsheet parsing and validation run through browser-side JavaScript, while the hosted control plane provides published configuration, production keys, operational session metadata, and webhooks. It works with React applications built using frameworks and tools such as Next.js, Remix, and Vite.
