Drefly is a free, browser-based toolkit combining screen recording, video, PDF, image, downloader, and AI file processing in one place, along with Word and Excel document support. Accessed at drefly.pro, it lets users record their screen, convert video into formats like MP4, WEBM, and MOV, convert, merge, compress, split, and edit PDF files, and resize and convert images, all without signup or installation, since everything runs in the browser. Drefly also offers media extraction from post URLs and AI functions including summarization, translation, and content restructuring.
The platform's core strength is its PDF tools. Users can convert PDF pages into PNG or JPG images, merge image formats into a single PDF, combine several PDFs into one document, split a PDF into separate files, and compress file sizes while preserving readability. Page controls let users rotate, delete, and reorder pages. Drefly also supports annotating regions of a page for sharing via WhatsApp, Slack, email, or X, and extracting embedded images and icons into a zip.
For document interoperability, Drefly bridges Office formats and PDF, including turning Word documents into PDFs and back, exporting Excel sheets as print ready PDFs, pulling tables and text from PDFs into editable Excel workbooks, and flattening slide decks into PDFs.
Typical use cases include everyday office tasks done quickly, such as converting a contract from Word to PDF, compressing a large presentation before emailing it, or extracting images from a technical document. The AI features let users summarize lengthy reports, translate PDFs into different languages with a downloadable result, and extract structured JSON data from PDFs.
All processing happens in the browser, requiring only an internet connection and a compatible browser, with no downloads, plugins, or installs needed. The interface follows a simple drag and drop workflow: select a tool, upload a file, and receive the finished output directly in the browser.

Drefly.proDrefly.pro's answer:
It started as a weekend project after one too many "images to PDF" tools demanded a signup or a paid plan for a task that should take five seconds. The first version did exactly that one thing, on a single page, with no login. It kept growing tool by tool - added whenever a real task needed one - into today's full toolkit, still maintained the same way: as a focused side project, not a company with a roadmap.
Drefly.pro's answer:
Anyone who needs a quick file task done - converting, compressing, or editing a PDF, image, or video - without creating an account or paying for a one-off job. That covers everyday users, students, and small teams, as well as developers and indie hackers who want a no-friction tool for a task they don't want to build themselves.
Drefly.pro's answer:
drefly.pro puts PDF, Office, image, video, downloader, and AI tools under one roof - no signup, no payment walls, and no artificial file size or count limits. Most tools process your file server-side and discard it afterward; a few (Crop Video, Clip Video, Reel Maker, Record) run entirely in your browser so the file never leaves your device. On the AI tools, you can also bring your own API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google), which stays local to your browser and is never stored on our servers.
Drefly.pro's answer:
Most file-tool sites gate basic features behind a signup, a "pro" tier, or ads. drefly.pro is free end to end - every tool, every time, no account required and no cap on file size or count beyond your own device and connection. It's also broader than most single-purpose converters: PDF, Office, image, video, downloader, and AI tools in one place instead of five different sites.
Drefly.pro's answer:
drefly.pro is a lightweight web app built with modern, widely used web technologies on the frontend and a Python based backend, deployed on standard cloud infrastructure. The focus has been on keeping things fast and simple rather than adding unnecessary complexity.

Smallpdf [1] probably deserves a mention here. Not OSS and not self-hosted, but Iโve used it occasionally and it has always worked really well. When I was running an agency, we inherited their first office โ very cool folks. [1] https://smallpdf.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

I don't have Office 365 for the "Get Data" option, nor do I have Adobe Acrobat. I've tried the smallpdf website but it came out a mess, possibly because my original spreadsheet had highlighted rows and lots of text in some of the cells. Source: over 3 years ago
Examples of companies doing this well: - SmallPDF users can convert or compress a limited number of files without an account โ turning users into advocates and customers once paid use cases comes along; - Freshline uses interactive product demos to help users self-educate and understand the value of their features, without a paywall or registration;.
