Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Sensor Tower and PocketProxy.

What makes your product unique?

PocketProxy's answer:

Most mobile proxy services rent you access to a shared pool of IPs they own. PocketProxy inverts that: it's software that turns hardware you already own โ€” ordinary Android phones with ordinary SIM cards โ€” into dedicated mobile proxies you control end to end.

That changes the economics. There's no per-GB metering and no pool you share with strangers, because the IP belongs to your phone on your carrier plan. Pricing is a flat fee per device.

It also means the same system works whether you need one proxy for your own accounts or a hundred for a proxy business. The built-in marketplace lets operators rent out spare capacity, so idle devices earn instead of sitting.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

PocketProxy's answer:

Two groups.

First, proxy operators and resellers โ€” people running fleets of phones as a business, whether that's five devices or several hundred. They need provisioning, rotation control, per-customer credentials, usage limits and billing, and a way to sell capacity they aren't using.

Second, teams and individuals who need dedicated mobile IPs for their own work: managing multiple social accounts without bans, web scraping, ad verification, and testing apps from real carrier networks.

The common thread is people who want a mobile IP they control rather than one they rent by the gigabyte.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

PocketProxy's answer:

Against pool providers (Oxylabs, SOAX, IPRoyal, Decodo): you get a dedicated IP on hardware you control, with no per-GB billing and no sharing an IP with whoever else is in the pool that hour.

Against hardware-locked systems like Proxidize: no proprietary modems to buy. Any Android phone works, including old handsets you already have. Against comparable Android-based software: flat per-device pricing from $4 per 30 days, SOCKS5-UDP alongside HTTP and SOCKS5, downloadable OpenVPN configs, granular per-permission device sharing for teams, and a marketplace for renting out spare devices.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

PocketProxy's answer:

  • Go โ€” proxy relay servers, VPN tunnel, SOCKS5/HTTP handling, NAT routing
  • Kotlin โ€” the Android app that runs on each proxy device
  • Next.js and React โ€” customer dashboard and website
  • PostgreSQL โ€” device, connection and usage data
  • OpenVPN and WireGuard โ€” customer VPN access
  • Docker Compose โ€” deployment across relay servers
  • Linode and Cloudflare โ€” infrastructure and edge

  • The Karma Connection in Chrome Web Store
I was optimistically hoping some of the MV3 changes would result in Chrome webstore policy enforcement being standardized, but that hasn't happened. Sensor Tower (https://sensortower.com/) makes a lot of popular extensions, like StayFocusd https://www.stayfocusd.com/. They seem to resell ad data (in violation of [1]?) and ship likely obfuscated code [2] (in violation of [3]?), but there's no enforcement or even... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
