EncryptedNote encrypts your secret in the browser before it leaves your device, the server never sees the decryption key. Share passwords, API keys, or sensitive messages via a link that self-destructs after reading. No account needed from either side.

Built because most "private" sharing tools still encrypt on their servers — meaning they hold the key. With EncryptedNote the key lives only in the URL fragment, which browsers never send to servers. We literally cannot read what you share.

XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption. Hard delete on read. Custom expiry up to 30 days. No ads, no accounts, no data collection.

Send Anywhere features and specs

  • Cross-Platform Compatibility
The service supports multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web browsers, making it versatile.
  • No File Size Limit
Users can send files of any size, which is beneficial for transferring large files without worrying about limitations.
  • Security
Send Anywhere uses a six-digit key for secure file transfer, ensuring that files are sent only to the intended recipient.
  • Speed
The service provides fast file transfer speeds, which is advantageous for quickly sharing files in various scenarios.

Possible disadvantages of Send Anywhere

  • Temporary Storage Limitation
Files are stored temporarily (usually for 48 hours), which might be inconvenient for users needing long-term storage options.
  • Limited Free Tier Features
While the free version is useful, advanced features, such as larger file storage duration and resuming interrupted transfers, require a premium subscription.
  • Privacy Concerns
The six-digit key, while convenient, could potentially be guessed or intercepted, raising minor privacy concerns.
  • Dependence on Internet Connectivity
High-speed internet is required to make the most of Send Anywhere’s features, which can be a limitation in areas with poor connectivity.
  • No Integration with Cloud Services
Send Anywhere does not natively integrate with popular cloud services like Google Drive or Dropbox, limiting its integration capabilities.

EncryptedNote features and specs

  • End-to-End Encryption
EncryptedNote provides end-to-end encryption for notes, ensuring that only the sender and intended recipient can read the content, enhancing privacy and security.
  • No Account Required
Users can create and share encrypted notes without needing to sign up or create an account, making it quick and convenient to use.
  • Self-Destructing Notes
Notes can be set to automatically destroy themselves after being read, reducing the risk of sensitive information being accessed later by unauthorized parties.
  • Simple and Easy to Use
The platform offers a straightforward, minimalist interface that makes it easy for anyone to create and share encrypted notes without technical knowledge.
  • Free to Use
The service is available for free, making encrypted communication accessible to everyone without any financial barrier.

Possible disadvantages of EncryptedNote

  • Limited Features
Compared to full-featured note-taking or messaging apps, EncryptedNote offers a very basic set of features focused solely on sharing encrypted text notes, lacking formatting, file attachments, or collaboration tools.
  • No Message History
Since notes are typically destroyed after reading, there is no way to retrieve or review previously sent notes, which can be inconvenient if you need to reference past communications.
  • Trust in the Platform
Users must trust that the service genuinely implements strong encryption and does not store or log note contents on their servers, which is difficult to independently verify without open-source code.
  • Link-Based Sharing Vulnerability
Notes are shared via a URL link, which means if the link is intercepted during transmission (e.g., through insecure messaging channels), an unauthorized party could potentially access the note.
  • No Mobile App
EncryptedNote is primarily a web-based service without dedicated mobile applications, which may be less convenient for users who prefer native app experiences on their devices.

Analysis of Send Anywhere

Overall verdict

  • Send Anywhere is generally considered a good option for those who need a straightforward and reliable way to transfer files without the need for cloud storage. Its speed, ease of use, and emphasis on privacy make it a strong choice for individual users or small teams. However, some users might find the free version's limitations on file size and transfer count to be restrictive, leading them to opt for a paid version or alternative services for heavy usage.

Why this product is good

  • Send Anywhere is often praised for its simplicity and robust functionality when it comes to transferring files easily and securely across different devices and operating systems. It allows users to send files with minimal setup, supports a wide array of formats, and doesn't require an account for basic usage. The platform uses 256-bit encryption, which provides a significant level of security for file transfers. I find myself using Send Anywhere [1] all the time. I couldn't find documentation on how the files are transferred or if they're uploaded to their cloud, but it's very handy. They claim the files are encrypted in transmission, but don't give details & could just be talking about SSL.[2] When you choose the files you want to transfer, it gives you a 6 digit code or a QR code.
