Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Because you can find out whether it fits your workflow in about thirty seconds, without paying or signing up. Three transcripts are free with no account.

Past that: it doesn't fail on uncaptioned videos, it splits interviews and podcasts into speaker turns, and it exports to plain text, Markdown or SRT instead of trapping the text in a viewer. If transcripts are all you need, you don't have to buy an editing suite or commit to a monthly subscription to get them.

Most YouTube transcript tools only copy the captions a creator already uploaded, so they return nothing when a video has none. Scriber checks for captions first and transcribes the audio when there aren't any, so it works either way.

It also labels speakers on recordings with more than one voice, and you can use it three times without an account, an email address or a browser extension.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

People who need to quote, search or reuse what was said in a video rather than watch it again. So far that has been researchers and students turning lectures and interviews into notes, podcasters writing show notes, journalists checking quotes, and writers pulling material out of long talks.

The clearest pattern is multi-speaker conversational audio: interviews, podcasts and recorded discussions. That's also the content least likely to have captions in the first place.

What's the story behind your product?

I spent 25 years in enterprise software as a design leader, always one layer away from the thing that actually shipped. During a career break I decided to build and launch something end to end myself.

The specific itch was wanting to quote and search interviews and podcast episodes. The existing options were either buried inside bloated editors or gave up entirely on videos without captions, which is most of the conversational content I cared about. Scriber does that one job.
