Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Schematic 5 features
Subscrio 5 features
  • Feature Flag & Entitlement Management
Schematic provides a unified platform for managing feature flags and entitlements, allowing teams to control which features are available to specific customers or plans without redeploying code. This simplifies the process of gating features based on billing plans or customer segments.
  • Tight Billing Integration
Schematic integrates with billing providers like Stripe, enabling teams to connect feature entitlements directly to subscription plans and usage-based billing. This reduces the need for custom code to bridge the gap between billing systems and feature access.
  • Plan and Pricing Management
The platform makes it easy to define and manage pricing plans, packaging, and feature bundles. Product and go-to-market teams can adjust what's included in each tier without requiring engineering changes, accelerating monetization experimentation.
  • Company and User-Level Targeting
Schematic supports granular targeting at both the company and individual user levels, making it well-suited for B2B SaaS use cases where entitlements often need to be managed per account, with overrides for specific customers or trials.
  • Developer-Friendly SDKs and APIs
Schematic offers SDKs and well-documented APIs that make it straightforward for engineering teams to integrate feature checks into their applications, reducing implementation time and lowering the barrier to adopting the platform.

Possible disadvantages

  • Relatively New and Niche Product
Schematic is a newer entrant in the market compared to established feature flagging tools like LaunchDarkly or Split. This means a smaller community, fewer third-party resources, and potentially less battle-tested reliability at massive scale.
  • Overlapping Functionality with Existing Tools
Teams that already use feature flagging tools or have built internal entitlement systems may find overlap with Schematic's capabilities, making it harder to justify adding another tool to the stack and potentially creating redundancy.
  • Potential Vendor Lock-In
By centralizing entitlement logic and feature gating in Schematic, teams become dependent on the platform for critical access control decisions. Migrating away could be complex, especially once deeply integrated into billing and product workflows.
  • Pricing Transparency
Schematic's pricing details are not always fully transparent on their website, requiring potential customers to engage with sales to understand costs. For smaller startups or early-stage companies, this can be a friction point in evaluating the tool.
  • Limited Ecosystem and Integrations
Compared to more mature platforms, Schematic may have a more limited set of out-of-the-box integrations with third-party tools, CRMs, analytics platforms, and billing systems beyond its primary supported partners, which could require additional custom work.
  • Embedded entitlement engine
Resolve customer feature access, values, and limits locally in your application using the MIT-licensed core and your own database.
  • Billing-provider independent
Keep payment processing separate from product entitlements. Supported Stripe events can update subscription state; other billing workflows can use the library APIs.
  • Native .NET and TypeScript libraries
Use native C# or TypeScript APIs with a shared entitlement model. .NET supports PostgreSQL and SQL Server; TypeScript supports PostgreSQL.
  • Plans, limits, and customer overrides
Define products, plans, features, subscriptions, trials, add-ons, and customer-specific overrides. Support metered usage and credit wallets.
  • Self-hosted core and optional Web Admin
Run the core in your infrastructure. The optional commercial Web Admin adds a management UI and REST API with a one-time license and optional annual support and upgrades.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Schematic and Subscrio.

What makes your product unique?

Subscrio's answer:

Subscrio embeds entitlement decisions directly in your .NET or TypeScript application. Its MIT-licensed core runs against your own database and resolves feature access, values, limits, and customer overrides locally. The free engine is complete on its own; the optional self-hosted Web Admin adds a ready-made management UI and REST API with a one-time commercial license.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Subscrio's answer:

Consider Subscrio when you want plan-based feature gating in a .NET or TypeScript product, local entitlement checks, and control of your database and deployment. The MIT-licensed engine lets you inspect and extend the code, while the optional Web Admin can save the work of building an internal management interface. It fits teams keeping billing, feature rollout flags, and user permissions as separate concerns. It does not provide payment processing, authentication/RBAC, or license-key activation.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Subscrio's answer:

Developers, software architects, and product teams building .NET or TypeScript software that needs to translate packages, purchases, subscriptions, or customer agreements into feature access and limits. Subscrio is suitable for any software product with entitlement rules, including SaaS and self-hosted applications. The optional Web Admin also serves support and operations teams managing catalogs, customer subscriptions, and exceptions.

What's the story behind your product?

Subscrio's answer:

Founder Jasen Fici created Subscrio from a problem he repeatedly encountered while building subscription products: billing records what a customer bought, but the application still needs a reliable way to decide what the customer can use. Subscrio keeps those entitlement decisions inside the application. Its optional Web Admin provides a ready-made workflow for managing the catalog, customer subscriptions, and exceptions. Jasen previously co-founded Velaro and founded StatusCast.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Subscrio's answer:

The open-source engine is available as native C#/.NET and TypeScript libraries, distributed through NuGet (Subscrio.Core) and npm (subscrio). The .NET library supports PostgreSQL and SQL Server, and the TypeScript library supports PostgreSQL. Both share the same entitlement model and run with the application's own database. The optional self-hosted Web Admin exposes a management interface and REST API.
