s3-lambda features and specs

  • Batch processing of S3 objects
s3-lambda provides a straightforward way to perform batch operations on large numbers of S3 objects, enabling map, filter, and reduce-style processing over entire S3 buckets or prefixes without writing boilerplate code.
  • Familiar functional API
The library uses a functional programming paradigm with operations like map, filter, and reduce, making it intuitive for JavaScript developers to process S3 objects using patterns they already know.
  • Built-in concurrency control
s3-lambda handles parallel processing of S3 objects with configurable concurrency, allowing users to control how many operations run simultaneously and avoid overwhelming AWS resources or hitting rate limits.
  • Context-aware operations
The library provides a context object within each operation that includes useful metadata about the current object being processed, simplifying access to S3 object properties during transformations.
  • Easy integration with Lambda
Designed to work seamlessly within AWS Lambda functions, making it straightforward to set up event-driven, serverless pipelines for processing large volumes of S3 data without managing infrastructure.

Possible disadvantages of s3-lambda

  • Unmaintained project
The repository appears to be no longer actively maintained, with limited recent commits and unresolved issues, which raises concerns about long-term reliability, security patches, and compatibility with newer AWS SDK versions.
  • Limited documentation
The project's documentation is relatively sparse, lacking comprehensive examples, edge case handling guidance, and detailed API references, which can make it challenging for new users to adopt effectively.
  • AWS SDK version dependency
The library depends on an older version of the AWS SDK for JavaScript, which may conflict with projects using the newer AWS SDK v3 and could miss out on performance improvements and features in updated SDKs.
  • Limited error handling flexibility
The built-in error handling mechanisms are relatively basic, and handling partial failures or implementing sophisticated retry logic for individual object operations requires additional custom code from the developer.
  • Narrow scope of functionality
The library is tightly focused on S3 object processing and does not integrate with other AWS services or provide utilities beyond basic map/filter/reduce operations, limiting its usefulness in more complex data pipeline scenarios.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Routing24 and s3-lambda.

What's the story behind your product?

Routing24's answer

Routing24 grew out of one engineering decision: run the route optimizer on the planner's own computer instead of metered cloud servers. Most route planning tools charge per vehicle or per stop because every optimization costs them compute; Routing24's solver is fast enough to plan thousands of stops right in the browser, so nothing needs metering. That made two things possible that the industry treats as premium: unlimited stops and optimizations on every plan, including the free one, and flat pricing. The rest of the product follows the same idea of removing artificial limits: deep constraints like EU/US driver breaks and pickup and delivery are a plan tier, not an enterprise sales call, and a built-in AI assistant plus an MCP server make the whole app drivable from Claude or ChatGPT.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Routing24's answer

Routing24 is a browser-based web application. The optimization engine is a high-performance C++ solver compiled to WebAssembly, so route optimization runs locally on the planner's computer at native speed, with no server queue and no per-run cost. The driver app is pure web, nothing to install. Geocoding and maps use OpenStreetMap on the free plan and Google Maps Platform (geocoding, address search, Street View) on paid plans. AI integrations are built on the Model Context Protocol: a 45-tool MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents to the app.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Routing24's answer

We don't publish customer names. Routing24 is used by small and mid-size delivery and service operations: local couriers and last-mile carriers, food and beverage distributors, retail and e-commerce fulfilment, field service and home services teams, and passenger transport such as school runs and NEMT, from a single vehicle to fleets of hundreds.

What makes your product unique?

Routing24's answer

Three things. Constraint depth: one or more time windows per order, multi-dimensional vehicle capacities, driver shifts and legally compliant EU (561/2006) and US (FMCSA) breaks, linked pickup and delivery, locker delivery, dark-store pickup, product non-mixing and segregation, no-go zones, all self-serve where competitors gate this behind enterprise contracts. Local optimization: the solver runs on your own computer, so every plan, including the free one, has unlimited stops and optimizations. AI-first: a built-in route planning AI assistant turns files, PDFs and emails into orders and applies rules you state in plain language, and a 45-tool MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT drive the whole app.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Routing24's answer

Pricing and limits: most route planners charge per vehicle or per stop and cap stops or optimizations; Routing24 is flat-priced with a free plan and unlimited stops, vehicles and optimizations. Constraints that elsewhere need an enterprise plan, such as driver breaks, pickup and delivery transfers, product segregation and compatibility zones, are included in the Pro plan. Drivers install nothing, they open a route link in any mobile browser. And you can connect your own AI assistant: Claude or ChatGPT operates Routing24 end to end via MCP, spending your existing AI subscription's quota.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Routing24's answer

Route planners and dispatchers at small and mid-size fleets who plan daily multi-stop routes and currently do it in spreadsheets or a maps app: couriers, food and retail distribution, e-commerce last mile, field services, utilities and home services, school transport and NEMT. Also AI-forward teams that want route optimization their AI assistant can operate through MCP.
