Two things almost nobody else does at once: a real alpha channel, and no watermark on any plan — including the free one. Most "transparent video" tools hand you back an MP4 whose transparency is already flattened to black or white, or they burn a watermark across your subject. Unscreen watermarks its free output and caps you hard. VEED, CapCut and Runway bury background removal inside a full editor you have to learn and subscribe to. DaVinci Resolve can do it, but you're setting up nodes. RemoveVideoBG does exactly one job: upload a clip, get a clean transparent cutout back. It also handles the parts other tools skip — 30-minute recordings without manual chunking, batch queues, animated GIFs, background blur and replace, and green-screen keying both ways. Mostly solo operators and small teams — people for whom setting up a green screen isn't realistic.

I kept needing one thing: a person, cleanly cut out, on a transparent background. Every route to it was bad. Set up a green screen (I don't have the space or lighting). Rotoscope frame by frame (hours). Or upload to an online tool and get the result back with a watermark across the subject's face, or as an MP4 with the transparency silently flattened. AI matting had gotten good enough that none of this should still be necessary — the models were there, the tooling around them wasn't. So I built the version I wanted: one upload, a real alpha channel out, no watermark, and no editor to learn.

The app runs entirely on Cloudflare Workers (edge), with D1 for the database and R2 for video storage. Frontend is React 19 on TanStack Start, TypeScript throughout, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, Drizzle ORM against D1. AI matting inference runs on fal.ai — no self-hosted GPUs. Post-processing (background replace, blur, green-screen composite) runs client-side via WebCodecs, so those passes never round-trip to a server. Auth is Better Auth, billing is Stripe.
