Possible disadvantages of Bootstrap

  • Uniform Look
Websites built with Bootstrap often look similar because many developers use the default styles and components without customization.
  • Overhead
Including the entire Bootstrap library can add unnecessary weight to your project if you only use a small fraction of its features.
  • Learning Curve
For beginners, the extensive set of features and classes can be overwhelming and take some time to learn.
  • Dependency on jQuery
Older versions of Bootstrap heavily rely on jQuery, which can be a disadvantage for projects that aim to minimize dependencies.
  • Specific Structure
Bootstrap works best when you adhere to its predefined structure and classes, which can limit flexibility for more complex or unique designs.
  • Customization Challenges
Deep customization can be difficult and time-consuming, especially if you need to override many default styles and behaviors.
  • Performance Issues
Using a large number of Bootstrap components can lead to performance issues, particularly on lower-end devices.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Remotive and Bootstrap.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Remotive's answer

Because it was built for this, not adapted to it. Remotive has been exclusively focused on remote work since 2014. That focus shows in the quality of listings, the depth of filters, and the trust the community has built in the platform over more than a decade. Listings are vetted. The job tracking tools mean you are not managing your search across five spreadsheets and a notes app. And the community around it, half a million people across social platforms, means you are not searching alone.

What makes your product unique?

Remotive's answer

Most job boards treat remote work as a filter. Remotive was built around it from day one โ€” founded in 2014, years before the rest of the world caught on. It combines what others do separately: vetted listings, advanced filters, job tracking, and active scam awareness education. Beyond the board itself, it carries a genuine point of view: speaking openly about AI in hiring, trust in the job market, and what remote work actually looks like in practice. It is a platform built around the belief that remote work should be an important part of every job market.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Remotive's answer

Remotive's primary audience is tech-savvy professionals seeking fully remote employment โ€” developers, designers, marketers, customer support specialists, and finance and operations professionals who have either already embraced remote work or are actively looking to make the transition. Beyond the job seeker, Remotive also serves remote-first employers and startups looking to reach a qualified, globally distributed talent pool without the noise of general job boards.

What's the story behind your product?

Remotive's answer

Remotive was created in 2014 by Rodolphe Dutel, who began advocating for remote work at Google as early as 2011, at a time when tech companies were convinced the future of work meant keeping everyone in the same office. Remotive had a different vision. One where you could pick up the kids from school, exercise when you felt like it, avoid the water-cooler drama, and swap the commute for an extra hour of sleep. Small things that, added together, make for a fundamentally better life. The platform grew steadily, winning awards and building a loyal community, long before COVID made remote work a necessity for the rest of the world.
