Redacted Font features and specs

  • Privacy Preservation
Redacted Font is designed to replace text with horizontal lines that simulate redactions, which helps maintain privacy in documents where sensitive or confidential content needs to be obscured.
  • Aesthetic Consistency
The font provides a consistent and professional way to simulate the look of redacted text, ensuring documents remain aesthetically pleasing even when substantial content is hidden.
  • Development Utility
In UI/UX design, the Redacted Font can be useful for mockups or wireframes by indicating text placeholders without distracting viewers with readable content.
  • Ease of Use
The font can be easily applied to any text in a document or design project, simplifying the process of redacting information.

Possible disadvantages of Redacted Font

  • Loss of Information
By design, the Redacted Font obscures information completely, which means important context or data can be inadvertently hidden if the font is misused.
  • Limited Use Cases
The font is primarily useful for specific situations such as mockups and privacy-focused documents; outside of these areas, its utility is limited.
  • Potential Confusion
Viewers unfamiliar with the purpose of the Redacted Font might find documents using it confusing or believe content is missing unintentionally.
  • Dependency on Font Support
The effect of redaction is dependent on having the font installed and supported in the viewing application, which may not always be the case.

  • Limited Historical Depth
Some users note that historical data tracking may not go as far back or be as detailed as specialized financial data providers in traditional markets.

Another option for this is to use a โ€œredactedโ€ font like https://github.com/christiannaths/redacted-font I can't find it ATM, but I used to have a bookmarklet that added one of these at the top level and to the start of any list of fonts in other page styles (or removed its edits when run a second time, to revert the page). Shouldn't be too hard to write if I decide I want it again and still can't find the source... - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
