Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Readwise and SquirrelIt.app.

What makes your product unique?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

Most save tools store a URL and a title. Squirrel It reads what's behind the link โ€” the full Reddit thread with comments, the YouTube transcript, the article without the ads โ€” then summarizes it, tags it, and makes the actual content searchable. You can ask a question across everything you've saved and get an answer with sources.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

Pocket and Raindrop save links. Squirrel It saves what the link says. The difference matters when you're trying to find that one meal prep tip from a Reddit thread you saved three months ago. You don't remember the title or the subreddit โ€” but you remember what it was about. That's what Squirrel It is built for.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

People who save a lot of links from Reddit, YouTube, and Instagram and can never find them again. Heavy tab hoarders, research rabbitholes, ADHD "I'll read this later" collectors. Anyone who's ever re-Googled something they know they already saved somewhere.

What's the story behind your product?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

I had 400+ saved Reddit links and couldn't find anything in them. Reddit's saved posts have no search, a 1,000-item cap, and no way to remember what was actually in a thread. I tried Pocket, Raindrop, Readwise โ€” all of them stored the URL but none of them read the content. So I built something that does.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

React and TypeScript with TanStack Router, styled with Tailwind CSS. Supabase for the database, auth, and edge functions. Apify for content extraction across platforms. Claude API (Haiku) for generating summaries, tags, and powering the Ask feature. Deployed as a PWA.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

SquirrelIt.app's answer:

Squirrel It is early-stage and built for individual users, not companies. The core users right now are Reddit power users and productivity enthusiasts who save dozens of links a week and want them to actually be findable later.

Readwise Reviews

  1. Great help to review books

I imported my kindle highlights, as many others. Now I daily review some highlights (thanks to a dashboard, I am motivated). And where I didn't create highlights, as I only listened to the audiobooks, I get the highlights from others. It also allows to create beautiful quotes. It adds the book cover and matches quote and background with colours found on the book title! Really nice!

  • Exporting Mac OSX Book Highlights into an Obsidian Vault or Markdown Files
The only highlights that Readwise retrieves semi-automatically are from the books I buy from Kindle, by going into the Readwise app and clicking a button. If I upload them to Kindle or need highlights from the Apple Books app, I have to open the book, go to my highlights, select them all, and then email them to a Readwise email address. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • Show HN: I combined spaced repetition with emails so you can remember anything
Readwise also has this feature. I get a daily email with a random assortment of highlights that have been pulled in from multiple sources (Reader, Notion, Kindle, etc.) The product benefit in their case is that it's kind of like Zapier, but for notes. https://readwise.io/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
