I'm in no way saying that markdown is perfect but it is much better than anything else I've used. It's got me through both a bachelors and masters. The author of this article appears to be unaware of pandoc, and even better quarto. If you're hell-bent on headless, I can personally recommend 11ty (https://www.11ty.dev/) and hugo (https://gohugo.io/). That said, for non-technical admins, you probably want a user interface.
