As answered by people managing PureTools and Smallpdf.
PureTools's answer
Every tool runs entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded to a server, and you can verify that yourself in the browser's network tab. Most competitors send your files to their servers for processing. PureTools does the work on your own device instead, so it is private by design, needs no signup, shows no ads, and adds no watermark or artificial size limit.
PureTools's answer
Competitors like iLovePDF, Smallpdf or CloudConvert upload your files to their servers and gate features or file sizes behind premium plans. PureTools processes everything locally with WebAssembly: no upload, no account, no watermark, no premium tier. For big video files it is also faster, a lossless rotation or mute finishes in seconds because nothing travels over the network.
PureTools's answer
Anyone who occasionally needs to convert, compress or edit a file without installing software: office workers, students, creators, developers. It is especially relevant for privacy conscious users and for sensitive documents that should never reach a third party server.
PureTools's answer
PureTools started from a simple frustration: converting a file online usually means cookie walls, popups, watermarks and uploading personal documents to unknown servers. Modern browsers can do all of this locally, so PureTools was built as one clean toolbox where every tool is the product, not bait for a subscription. It grew tool by tool to 61 free utilities available in 9 languages.
PureTools's answer
Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript on a static host, with WebAssembly engines for the heavy work: ffmpeg.wasm as a fallback, mp4box for lossless MP4 remuxing, the Web Audio API for audio processing, canvas pipelines for images and pdf-lib for PDFs. There is no backend for file processing, everything runs client side.
