Though I do not register at all on the leader board I will sometimes work obsessively on a problem just to make one of the level icons light up for me. I do hobby programing. It is sometimes to create something (supposedly) useful. Lately though it is more discovery and a little math like. I enjoy Project Euler (https://projecteuler.net/. My recommendation would be to learn using design systems and UI Kits that take care of it for you right away. My choice would be MDBootstrap React for Bootstrap, and Tailwind Elements for Tailwind. Source: about 3 years ago
