pre.dev
Git X-Modules

Overall verdict

  • pre.dev is a solid AI-powered tool for turning product ideas into structured technical plans, roadmaps, and scoping documents, making it valuable for founders and teams who need to move quickly from concept to actionable development plans.

Why this product is good

  • Uses AI to convert product ideas into detailed technical specifications and roadmaps
  • Speeds up the planning and scoping process, saving significant time
  • Helps bridge the gap between non-technical founders and development teams
  • Generates structured documentation that can be shared with developers or investors
  • Reduces ambiguity in project requirements before development begins

Recommended for

  • Startup founders who need to scope and plan software products quickly
  • Non-technical entrepreneurs seeking clear technical roadmaps
  • Product managers organizing development requirements
  • Agencies and freelancers preparing project proposals and estimates
  • Teams looking to accelerate the pre-development planning phase

Overall verdict

  • Git X-Modules (gitmodules.com) is a specialized plugin/tool aimed at improving the experience of working with Git submodules, particularly within JetBrains IDEs. It's a solid niche solution if your workflow heavily relies on submodules and you find the default Git tooling for them clunky, but it's not a universal must-have for all developers since many teams avoid submodules altogether in favor of monorepos or package managers.

Why this product is good

  • Adds a more visual, integrated UI for managing Git submodules directly inside the IDE
  • Simplifies common but often error-prone submodule operations like init, update, and sync
  • Reduces the need to drop into the command line for routine submodule maintenance tasks
  • Can help teams that are already committed to a submodule-based repo structure work more efficiently
  • Actively focused on a specific pain point (submodule UX) rather than being a bloated general tool

Recommended for

  • Development teams that rely on Git submodules for managing multiple related repositories
  • JetBrains IDE users (IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm, etc.) who want tighter Git submodule integration
  • Engineers who frequently run into merge conflicts or sync issues with submodules
  • Organizations maintaining modular codebases (e.g., shared libraries, plugin architectures) via submodules
  • Developers who prefer GUI-based Git workflows over command-line submodule management

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing pre.dev and Git X-Modules.

What's the story behind your product?

pre.dev's answer

My co-founder and I ran a boutique consulting firm and realized we were spending too much time understanding client requirements to get started on the project. We figured that we could specially train an LLM to understand a client's requirements and convert it into a knowledge graph and statement of work

What makes your product unique?

pre.dev's answer

We are the only end-to-end solution for planning and visually explaining how to get from an idea to reality.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

pre.dev's answer

Freelance agencies are using this tech as an embedded widget on their site where prospective clients discuss their project and request a meeting with the agency. The agencies are able to view each client's project in detail before they even meet the client.

Founders are also using it to map out their MVPs and request a meeting with pre.dev to actually get the MVP built.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

pre.dev's answer

Frontend - React

Backend - Node Js Express - Llama 2 - GPT 4

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

pre.dev's answer

One could technically recreate pre.dev with the correct training data and prompt engineering and training their own LLM, but this would costly in both $$$ and time.
