Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing PicMonkey and Pressentable.

What's the story behind your product?

Pressentable's answer:

Built by a solo founder who kept seeing good work undersold by its delivery: solid numbers sent as raw spreadsheets and pasted screenshots. The premise: your client reports shouldn't look like spreadsheets. Pressentable is being built in public, currently in alpha, with a deterministic typesetting engine (Grillage) in the works so that the same report config produces the same pixels, on any machine, forever.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Pressentable's answer:

Because the deliverable is a document, not a dashboard link. BI tools like Looker Studio assume someone will explore the data; clients do not explore, they read. Pressentable produces the thing you actually send: a clean PDF or a live web link that renders identically everywhere. Against the spreadsheet-and-screenshot workflow, it wins on time and on looks: minutes instead of hours, and typeset instead of gridlines. White-label output is available for paying members, so agencies ship reports under their own name.

What makes your product unique?

Pressentable's answer:

Pressentable sits between the spreadsheet and the BI tool. It turns a CSV into a typeset document, not a dashboard: a serif, print-grade report that looks like it came from a design studio.

  • Config-driven documents. Every block is data-bound configuration, so the same report rebuilds perfectly next month with new numbers.
  • Curated design, on purpose. You choose from options that all look right; you cannot accidentally make it ugly.
  • No install, no training. Upload data, fill blocks, export. The first report takes minutes.
  • Local-first. Your data stays in your browser; publishing a report is an explicit, separate step.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Pressentable's answer:

  • React, TypeScript, Vite, running on Bun
  • SheetJS for CSV/Excel parsing, Recharts for charts, TanStack Table for tables
  • Local-first storage in the browser (IndexedDB via Dexie)
  • Supabase for the publishing layer, Cloudflare Pages for hosting
  • Grillage, our own deterministic typesetting engine, in development

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Pressentable's answer:

Freelancers and small agencies who send recurring reports to clients: marketing recaps, monthly KPIs, campaign reviews. More broadly, anyone who regularly has to turn a spreadsheet into something a client, a boss, or a board actually reads.

The 7 Best Free Photoshop Alternatives
Another platform-independent, web-based design and editing tool with a lot to offer is PicMonkey, which was seemingly designed with the neophyte user in mind but also packs a punch for those looking for more state-of-the-art features. As long as you have a browser running Flash, PicMonkey is accessible on virtually any platform and lets you start your creation from scratch...
12 Best Free Photoshop Alternatives You Should Try
There are also a bunch of filters and effects that you might find useful. However, PicMonkey isnโ€™t nearly as feature-rich as Photoshop is, and it tends to respond a little slow at times. That said, the biggest problem in PicMonkey is that unless you subscribe to a pro subscription, youโ€™ll not be able to export your images..
